Found this quite large (9x13) framed photo amongst my Grandparents things. Would be interested in any info about the area and perhaps a date? Only thing written on the back of the photo is 1-94 in blue pencil which I expect is just a file # from the studio or printer, and probably doesn't mean January, 1894? Sorry for the two pics but couldn't fit it in the scanner in one shot!
I know my GG Grandmother Miss Jane Hutcheon was living at Briar Cottage, Stuartfield by Mintlaw, in May of 1920 because she is listed as closest relative on my Grandfathers Canadian immigration papers.
Just getting back into the Genealogical swing of things after half a year away. Was a tough one, lost my Dad this past October. Hope everyone here at RC has been well. looking forward to better times to come.... :-)

In the background there's a blob that looks suspiciously like a motor vehicle.
On that basis C. 1920's.

Yes, now that I look at the scanned image I see that also. Its harder to see in the actual photo. So circa 1920 seems about right. Now perhaps I'll start a thread over in the Aberdeenshire forum and see if I can get any info on Stuartfield and perhaps my GG Grandmother. Thanks for your help!

Hi. Just joined this sight and found your post. The house on the right of Knock Street with the white upper windows is where I was born and grew up. Jane Hutcheon is my great great grandmother. Johan Forsyth was my great grandmother. Just wondered which child of Jane are you descended from? I think she had 1 daughter and 3 sons. Donald, Alfred and George. My daughter lives in Stuartfield still. If there is anything we can help you with just ask. Diane

Blimey! Hello Cousin! I am descended from Jane Hutcheon's son Alexander Keith Hutcheon who was born November 19th, 1870 in Milbrex. He is my GG grandfather. My name is Richard and I am 56. Alexander's father I am pretty sure was Arthur Keith, a farmer who was later married to a Margaret Chalmers. Alexander married Margaret "Maggie Jane" Young on January 6th, 1900 in St. Machar. They emigrated in 1920 with their children to Toronto, and then eventually a year later to New York. I still live in the NY area, and my mum Margaret is still alive and well at 87. She would be Jane's Great Grandaughter. I am so happy to find you!! Do you have any pictures of the family? I have two pictures of Jane. One with my Granddad when he was a wee boy, and one from the 1930's with her son Donald and Daughter Joann and her husband. Can't wait to hear from you!

My research has found that Jane Hutcheon had at least 6 children, 5 boys and 1 girl. Check this thread for more info... https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=764025.0
