Title: John Axon (merchant Navy)
Post by: Juelladeville on Wednesday 25 January 17 11:26 GMT (UK)
Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how I can contact the Registra General of Shipping and Seamen or Maritime Coast Guard Agency.

I have phone the National Archives who were  unable to point me in the right direction.

I'm wanting to claim any medals for John Axon on behalf of his son also named John Axon.
He was in the merchant navy from 1944 to 1949.

I have already gained some paperwork all thanks to Seaweed, which is the CR1 and CRS10 but unfortunatly seem to be going around in a circle and so far havn't been able to move it on.

Many thanks juelladeville

"6. Applying for Second World War campaign medals

For the issue of Second World War campaign medals contact: Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

For the issue of medals you will need to provide evidence.

Get a copy of the seaman’s sea service record which will provide you with evidence of service. Also consult the relevant ship’s movement card (BT 389). This may prove the vessel was in the theatre of war on that date.

Access to full details of seamen born less than 100 years ago may be restricted."

Someone known to me had to find evidence of every ship her father had been on throughout WW2 to be able to claim his unclaimed medals. It took a lot of time but they got there in the end.
