I have a 1761 King James Version which I am seeking to reunite with the descendants of the family. It contains a handwritten history of the Cannons (17?? - 1905), penned by various family members during those years. The last Cannons mentioned therein are:
Peregrine Fernie Cannon (b. 23/04/1895, d. 06/10/1916 - Somme, WW1)
Twins Marian and Doris Cannon (b. 09/09/1897, d. 06/04/1898 & 08/04/1898) Buried St. Bees.
Robert Clark Cannon (b. 29/07/1896 aboard the ship "Sir Robert Fernie" off the Californian Coast. Baptized at St. Bees)
There are various other Cannons mentioned - mostly born and buried in or near near St. Bees, Isel and "Blindcrath" (?) - CUMBRIA
Prior to this there are a Braithwaite (Lucy Walton), a Wilson (Abigail) and a Fisher (?) who all marry into the family.
So what happened to Robert Clark Cannon ? Could he still have children or grandchildren near St. Bees ? Or Harrington ? And how did this dusty great thing end up in a secondhand bookshop in Liverpool about ten years ago ? !!! I didn't pay much for it but it's possibly got great sentimental value for someone. It'd be nice if it could just be reunited with the family.
That link will more fully explain the Liverpool/Lancashire connection !
Thanks,
Mike.

ELLEN ORRELL 20 , SPINSTER ,.... FATHER ...JAMES ORRELL ...MARINER ...IN THE PRESENCE OF US.....THOMAS WHITELAW...MARGARET ORRELL....THEY WHERE MARRIED BY ..IT LOOKS LIKE ....THOMAS.H.P.HYATT...THEY STOOD IN FOR ONE AND OTHER. MARGARET AND THOMAS WHITELAW LIVED IN BLACKSTONE STREET LIVERPOOL,IF THATS ANY HELP.

You can see from this here link, shipping is an integral part of this mystery so 'James Orrell' might possibly be a connection. The 'Fernie' of 'Peregrine Fernie Cannon' is evidently him being named after the Sir Robert Fernie ship aboard which he was born and Dad was a "Master Mariner" with a house in Tranmere (and Captain of said ship on the 1901 Census)

I HOPE YOU FIND SOMEBODY TO PASS IT ON TO,IF I FIND ANY MORE INFO I WILL LET YOU KNOW

Thanks for all your hard work, Wendy. It's not that I'm concentrating on one side or t'other, I just want to find *anyone* connected so I can get this thing to 'em !
I'll digest your results and see what comes of it.
Cheers !

Just a bump while I'm reminded that I'm not getting anywhere with this...

There's just a possibility that I may be vaguely connected with a Jane Cannon who married Miles Wilson in Crosthwaite, Cumberland on 22/12/1851. Her father was recorded as John.
Any links?

It might be a case of putting an ad into the paper on the letters page and see if you find the family that way

Hi Mike- Firstly can I say what a wonderful thing you're trying to do- good luck!
You've probably tried this before but I'll tell you what I found anyway!
I went on GenesReunited & found a lady called Janine who has 2 Cannons listed for Whitehaven Patrick (born 1891) & Elizabeth J (born 1885). There were quite a number of Cannons listed for Birkenhead but nothing specific.
Will go back & check St. Bees as I didn't before- DOH!
All the best

Nothing for St.Bees another 2 possibles?
John Cannon (born 1893 Whitehaven(
Thomas Cannon (Born 1896 Cleator Moor)
Just let me know if you'd like me to contact any of these if you're not a member.... I have posted a message on the Cannon history message board on GenesReunited telling folk about your search & directing them to rootschat, hope you don't mind.
Just let me know if I can help

Thanks WD,
Much appreciated. My GR/FR sub lapsed in 2004 and I didn't check there - though I knew I ought to. I've been pre-occupied with other stuff so just left these Cannon threads dangling - as it were - in the hope that someone/something might turn up (!).
I've since found some faded pencil writing in the inner front cover but I need to go 'forensic' on it to find out what it used to say (IOW, hold it up a bulb at a funny angle until it looks legible).
Poor bible just sitting in a pile of books in our spare room at the moment. Will dig it out at some point and get a full tree out of what's written.
Cheers,
Mike.

I see this post was made several years ago but only just developed an interest in wondering where my family came from on my fathers side. (the cannon's) as i know vertually nothing about him or the family history.
I dont acctually know much other than my grandads name was noel cannon (or geoffrey cannon) and was born on boxing day but i dont know the year and he was born in liverpool. and he married moira (dont know maiden name or year of marriage)
I have sent a link to my uncle as i know that he is researching the family tree and may have got quite far back.
as i say i have basically no information on my family but hopefully this will be relavant to my uncle.
look forward to seeing how this progresses

Hi Pam,
Fingers crossed for you. The Bible is still here and although I recieved a few offers to rehome it, the family links were tenuous. I'd like nothing better than to perch it upon any branch of it's rightful family tree.
Regards,
Mike.

I think its brilliant what your doing,
I stil havent spoken to my uncle but have spoken to my cousin and she said that my grandad geoff noel cannon was born in 1935 and married moira hessey still dont know the year, they both died in 1995 (aprox 6 months apart)
My grand father had many brothers not sure of there names yet but my great grand fathers name was Gorden cannon and he married margarita (not sure of maiden name) am assuming he was born some time arround 1910ish but that is just a guess going by the year my grandad was born.
there was an old story i remember my grandad telling me that one of my ancestory was a mariner but as i was a young child at the time i have no recollection of whom it was he was talking about.
Hopefully i will find out my grandads brothers. sisters and uncles and cousins soon and be able to discover if it is our family bible
thankyou so much for getting back in touch so quickly you have sparked quite a big talking point in the family

Hi,
I have a James Cannon b. about 1798 in Herefordshire in my family tree. He migrated to South Africa in 1820 and married Betty Wild, daughter of Abraham Wild and Ann Thornton, who was born in 1811 st Shaw, Oldham. Probably no use to you, but thought that anything might help! Let me know if you need any more info.

Tisy

I have a direct link to peregrine Fisher who married Abigail Wilson. They had a daughter Anne.Peregrine was the Brother of my great great grandfather Joseph fisher Joseph and peregrines parents were Joseph fisher and grace sumpton of Lorton cumberland.
I find it amazing that you found this bible in liverpool where I live. This is something I would love to have a look at.

Hi, I,ve just registered on this site after googling "peregrine fernie cannon". I,m researching the old boys of Birkenhead Institute who died in WW1, to add more information about them rather than just the names and regiments on our old school memorial. I just wondered if the family had been in touch about the bible and if they would be able to share more detail about Peregrine. As he was born in 1895 he was of an age with one of our old boys about who so much is known, poet Wilfred Owen. Hope you can help. Les

Hello
I know this topic was opened long time ago but i wanted to know if Coz60 or Mike ever get in touch about the Cannon/Fisher Bible.
As i am a Fisher descendant from the Lorton county i am highly interested in this bible to know at list what kind of information is inside.
If anyone could help me it would great as i am stuck at this time with my genealogy.
Thanks
