Hi there
I have looked at the 1911 census for Derrymullen and it looks as if there were only two farms there in 1911. What was the place like in 1927? were there more houses there at that time. From one of the descriptions on a web site it says that Derrymullen is a 226 acre townland on the north side of Ballinasloe.
The reason for asking is that my husband's Great Grandmother was a single lady, a servant from Derrymullen, Ballinasloe when she gave birth at a private maternity house in Dublin in 1927. Probably will never be able to track down either of her parents (only have a mothers name) but just curious where she may have come from.
Many thanks. Heather

Hi Bicker
My great-grandfather came from Derrymullen. Local residents referred to it as a "village", which it kind of was, just outside of Ballinasloe. Most of the local families lived there for generations and were engaged in farming, although some new houses were erected after 1900 that was occupied by railway employees and labourers. I'm from Ballinasloe, so I might be able to help you with your research. DNA would certainly help you in identifying your husband's great grandfather.
