Title: Civil Registration Birth Index 1984 - 2000

I was doing my routine checks today for any new info on Blackbell from Co. Durham & Northumberland, when I noticed that there is a reference to a birth in the 1984 -2000 register.  We thought the Blackbell name had disappeared from UK, so this is a complete surprise.

I think this is the entry you mean

birth registration
 Sapphire Reanne Black-bell mothers maiden anme - Bell  Oct 1992 Enfield  Middlesex 

It looks as though it is a couple called Black & Bell hyphenating their surnames - so not a real Blackbell after all

Thanks for your reply. The same thing happened when I checked on Blackbell Electrical in UK, it was a merge of the partners names, Black and Bell. It would have been nice to find some more Blackbells in England as we are quite sure that the last one living is 88 and in Co.Durham.

Hello Alan

I've just checked the 2003 infodisk of the electoral roll and you are correct, only the one Blackbell is listed and she's in Durham.

My neice became a BLACKBORN last year,they're pretty rare too  ;D

Thanks for your reply. I am in contact with her family and we have shared lots of info about the Blackbells. Unfortunately the family suffered losses in both WW1 & 2, as well as giving birth to more daughters than sons. The last chance of carrying the name further relies on just 3 of my nephews in Australia, 21, 17 & 5 years old. We believe that the name originated in Scotland and the first one jumped over the fence and married in Co.Durham in 1797. I have had contact from a lady here in Australia who is starting to research the Scottish side of her family and thinks there may be a connection. Time will tell.
