My father's RAF service record shows he was sent to 50 PTC in 1946 as part of his demob process. But I've been unable to ascertain where this was. Prior to going to this PTC he served in Hong Kong.

I wonder if it was some kind Training Centre

Seems to mean either Personnel Transit Centre or Personnel Transit Camp.
Are you sure it reads 50 PTC (which doesn't appear to exist) and not 60 PTC (which was in the general area)?

As far as I can tel it's defn 50 as per attached

According to RAF abbreviations PTC means Personnel and Training Command. Apparently it was combined to form Strike Command to form Air Command. I cannot find a reference to 50 PTC but there is a reference to 56 PTC perhaps 50 was in or around that area.
56 PTC Portici, Naples

Thank you for this information

Still wonder if they meant 60, there's nothing for 50 in the archives http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7162605
There's mention here of "Ray Sturtivant's book 'RAF Flying Training and Support Units Since 1912'" that may be worth looking in to http://www.pprune.org/archive/index.php/t-351798.html
and it may be an idea to also try a specific RAF forum such as http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/index.php

I am reasonably sure that P.T.C refers to Personnel Transit Centre as I am researching my fathers wartime career in the RAF and he was stationed firstly at AIR 29/486 No 54 P.T.C at Taranto (in southern Italy) from Sept 1944 to Jan 1946. He notes in his log book that he is on staff here. He then moved on to Milan and then on to another PTC at Villach in Austria called Camp Alemain but I can find little record of this. He told me he was one of two movements officers at this transit centre.

I think this has to be a transit centre. My father had been at 367 Wireless unit in Hong Kong. Little sai wan. 4.5. 1946 50 ptl it is written but think this is ptc. Then about 2 months later is at 101 pdc for release.

There's a 23 January 1948 newspaper report of soldier absconding from "50 PTC Maidstone".

Hi, I've just got my grandads service record and he too was in Hong hong. The last entry before the despatch centre was 50 PTC like yours. Have you uncovered anything? I know that my grandfather was a gunner in the RAF and later on he worked along with the Hong Kong police Investigating opium dens etc. I wander if PTC could stand for Police Traning Contingency?
