Title: Stumped! Completed thankyou
Post by: Brie on Wednesday 11 January 17 14:23 GMT (UK)
I have looked at a birth record on SP and the parents are given as James Millar and Catherine ms Robertson. Marriage January, 1863, Crieff.

However, I cannot find that marriage on SP so looked on FS and found a marriage between a James Miller and Catherine Robertson 8th January, 1863 Muthill, Perth.

My knowledge of Perth's topography is not good but after googling Crieff and Muthill I gather they are not very far apart and so it may be worth looking at this record. However, I can't find this marriage on SP either!

Any suggestions as to how to find the marriage on SP will be gratefully received

Thank you
Brie

The marriage is there on SP.

I entered only:

Surname:  Miller
Forename:  James
Year: 1863
County:  Perth

Result was 3 hits. Top one is the one you are looking for in Muthill. Ref 386/A1

Good luck

Ellen

Thankyou Ellenbrora I will go and look - I have spent nearly an hour on every permutation I could think of, cannot think why I didn't find it.

Hi Brie,

SP is hopeless since the change-over.

The field for spouse surname doesn't bring it up i.e. needs to be left blank also using fuzzy matching option brings up Miller/Millar.

Thanks Rosinish,

That was my mistake leaving Robertson in - I thought it was the most likely to be correct knowing that there had been Miller/Millar variants in the past and also slightly different place names! So I think I must have done just about every other variant. Still one lives and learns  ::)
