Excellent Ian :)
GRO Index has Charles and Janes Children with Mother mn CHAMPION, couldnt find Marriage
On 1871 Census Jane becomes Mary.
Then I did a bit of googling, someone had the same problem'
1861 Census. Charles Heath aged 37 (i.e. b 1824), b. Wantage, carpenter, living with wife Jane aged 31 (b. 1829), b. Cornwall, daughter Hannah (3) and son Charles (1) at 16 George Street, Royal Place, Greenwich. September 1862, Charles Heath, carpenter, 39, died, TB, 4, Blisset Street, Greenwich. Birth certificates for Hannah (1858) and Charles (1859) show mother as Jane Heath, formerly Champion. 1871, MARY Heath, living Thames St. Greenwich, widow 41, b.Falmouth, daughter Hannah 13, son Charles 11, daughter Martha 9. 1881, Mary Heath, widow, 51, b. Falmouth living with son Charles, Thames Street. 1891, Mary Heath, 61, b. Miln, Cornwall living alone, Thames Street. Death Certificate December 1899, Mary Jane Heath, aged 70, Fisher's (?) House, Thames Street, Greenwich, informant M. Barnes, daughter (Martha Heath). Searching for a marriage more like concrete than brick! Anyone in Wantage any contact with such a Charles Heath who married a Jane/Mary/ Mary Jane Champion from Cornwall, somewhere, most probably not Cornwall, more likely Greenwich area, probably around 1856-1857. Any suggestions or leads very muc appreciated.
Cant find Charles or Joseph 1841 Census!

1851 Cenus Mary Jane HARRY c 1833 Ludgvan is visiting other Harrys, down as a Blacksmiths Daug.
May be her in 1851;
Ludgvan, Cornwall
Thomas Harry, 55, Mason
Elisabeth Harry, 50
Elera Harry, 30
Julia Harry, 20
James Harry, 16
Thomas Harry, 14
MARY Harry, 9*******
May be her Grandparents as a ELIZA Harry married John GLASSON, a Widower, Occp Blacksmith* 1844 (FreeREG)
Elizas Father is THOMAS Harry, Occp Mason. She is a Spinster.

Thank you all, given me lots to work with :)
-
I have more on the Harrys but will be back tomorrow night (my time in Oz)
John/Eliza Glasson are proving elusive in 1851/1861 Census
FreeREG has 3 Children to them including Eliza Ann 1851 from memory
They are around though as they witness the Marriage of Julia Ann Thomas HARRY in 1861. She is on 1841 Census I posted. She married as age 41which fits.
This appears to be her and Mother Eliza in 1871;
Eliza Glasson, 59 (1812)
Eliza Ann Glasson, 19
Both born Ludgvan

According to the Wantage Parish Register, Charles Heath was baptised in Wantage on 8th August 1823. His parents were James and Hannah. Profession of father: hempdresser and Charles was born on 17th July 1823. I trust this is of some help.
Cheers

1851 Census has a CHARLES 1823 and JOSEPH 1832, living with their Uncle JOSEPH Heath born 1793.
Both born Wantage.
Uncle Joseph (1793) maybe the one who was in 2nd battalion 23rd foot - record on Ancestry. It says he was born Wantage and was aged 19 on 1 April 1812.
I had thought the soldier was my Joseph Heath born about same time and living in Wantage in 1841 and 1851, but I think mine was actually born in Wiltshire and not Wantage

Just found your "Uncle" Joseph in Tanner street occ Chelsea pensioner - so that confirms it.
He was living a few doors away from William Eltham, my direct ancestor and the uncle of the man who later married my Joseph's grandaughter Sarah Heath - isn't it a small world!

wonder if this might be a possibility for the wedding? maybe a mistranscription of the surname??
charles heath and mary ann chapman (maybe champion) ?? wantage district 1867
as i say a possibilty
regards
