Hello Garstonite,
Not sure when Benjamin was born but around 1765, died in 1840. He farmed at Lisgallon. He had a son James Dickson who owned or ran the Dickson Linen Mills in Dungannon. There was another son John Lived in Cullenfad townland and a daughter Margaret born around 1793 who married Robert Lucas from Cullenramer townland and these two are my ancestors.
I have seen Francis and Jane in several records, maybe he was another son of of Benjamin, seeing as he named a child Benjamin. Do you think we are the same family? Must be really I think. Where do you live? I am in Australia.

Looks like someone else was looking for the same family- James Dickson, son of Benjamin Dickson & Margaret Anderson, married Sarah Anderson

There was a James Dickson, son of Thomas Alexander Dickson, but not sure if this is the same linen connection you are looking for-

The townland of Lisgallon marches Derryhoar-

Children of a Benjamin & Mary Dickson of Derryhoar baptised 1850-1861. Other Dicksons also listed-

Mary Dixon, age 82, in 1901 census with daughter Margaret White & a grandson-

However, there were quite a few Benjamin Dixon/Dicksons in that area.

Best to post on the boards where everyone can see what you already know rather than sending details by PM ;)
Am wondering if this bit is correct or perhaps family stories have gotten muddled?
Not sure when Benjamin was born but around 1765, died in 1840. He farmed at Lisgallon. He had a son James Dickson who owned or ran the Dickson Linen Mills in Dungannon.
Following up on the link I posted earlier-
"William Tillie Dickson was the son of James and Annabella Graham (nee Tillie) Dickson. He was born about 1887. His father was a local magistrate, a Member of Parliament and a linen manufacturer (Dickson & Co). They lived at Miltown House, Dungannon."
http://www.dungannonwardead.com/persondepth.asp?cas_id=562
James Dickson married (1884 Derry) Annabella Graham Tillie- address Milltown House Dungannon, father Thomas Dickson, merchat, one of the witnesses John McGeagh Dickson-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1884/10901/5981706.pdf
1901 census shows James Dickson as age 41 and 1911 as age 51 (so born c1860)-

www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tyrone/Dungannon/Miltown__South_Side_/868487
Wife Annabella died 1937-
Dickson Annabella Graham of Milltown House Dungannon county Tyrone died 14 June 1937 at 14 Drumsheugh Gardens Edinburgh Probate Londonderry 1 December to James Dicken deputy lieutenant the husband and Thomas Cedric Harold Dickson major in H.M. army (retired). Effects £693 15s. 8d.
Tracing back from the above James Dickson you might connect to your Benjamin Dickson but the James Dickson of Milltown House, linen merchant is not your Benjamin's son.

The James Dickson son of Benjamin that I referred to was born 1792 and died 1852 according to the Dickson charts that were sent to me some years ago.
I seem to be searching about 100 years earlier than the ones you have told me about, but do admit family stories certainly lose nothing in the telling. Our family of Dickson was certainly involved in the linen industry though. I will try to find more about that.
You have been very helpful, thank you.

A very large portion of families in this area had connections to 'linen industry' from weavers working at home on a single loom, a farmer growing flax, etc. but the Dicksons of Milltown were linen merchants on a far bigger scale.
My grandfather's uncle wrote (early 1900s) that his father was 'involved in the linen industry' in Aghadowey area (North Derry) but he's listed as 'farmer' in any records I could find. I thought he might have grown flax or something but my father's cousin assured me that he was involved in trading or something as well. Sure enough, found a record of him travelling to Boston, Mass. in late 1840 on business!

Who was James Dickson's father, as you have stated it was not Benjamin? I am convinced I have the right family. Starting with a David Dickson 1681-1742 probably born in Scotland but came to Ireland had a son James 1725-1793 and he was the father of Benjamin 1765-1840.
Benjamin married Margaret Anderson and had Margaret, James, William, Samuel and David. James was the father of Rt. Hon T

No, what I said was that James Dickson of Milltown House (married 1884) was not the son of Benjamin Dickson born c1765.

OK, we are researching a different James in a different century, but of the same family.
