Title: Find a Regiment
Post by: Malcolm Peck on Monday 09 January 17 23:45 GMT (UK)
Kindly help.  How do I find which regiment a person served in when all I have is their name, dob and location; death and location and their medals?  Likely service WW2

Many thanks

Apply for their Service Record?!
It will cost £30, but all service records for personnel serving after 1920 are still with the MOD.

See: https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/overview
(assuming this is UK)

Many thanks for your prompt reply.  The soldier was in the UK army and I will follow your suggestion.

All the best

You will also need a copy of the Death Certificate - unless he died in service.

That's because of the different rules if he died within the last 25 years.

Do you have the box that their Second World War Medals came in?  If so that can give you a clue, based on the stamps on the lower portion( or back) of the box.
