Title: Henry Collis
Post by: Tina2388 on Monday 09 January 17 01:40 GMT (UK)
This is my first post. Hello all.
My interest is Henry Collis, maybe born Devon in about 1802 - 3. He married Maria Price in 1823 in Warminster. Any info would be great.

Thank you Cas for your quick response. I believe my Henry came to Australia in 1831 as a soldier escorting convicts, with the Kings Own 4th regiment of foot, with Maria and their 8 year old son Henry. They therefore don't appear in any U.K. censuses. Maria died in 1840 in Sydney, Australia, but Henry remarried in Sydney and had a lot more children. I will check your links for baptisms.
Many thanks.

It would appear that the marriage and bapts belong to the family in census.

It would help to give all info, re Australia 1831

Good luck with your search

Regards Cas  :)

Henry continued as a soldier until 1837 (he bought his discharge from the army) when his regiment returned to England. They stayed and Henry died in Sydney in 1873. His son Henry died in 1852. What more would you like to know?

Re baptisms, Henry and Clara are correct, but don't know about George and Fanny. Maria had many miscarriages and stillbirths, and only Henry (born 1823) lived.

Was just adding that if there had been a mention of him in Oz from 1831, I would know not able to help.

No probs, it may help another researcher following the family in census.

Good luck, Cas

Thank you Cas. Very helpful. I haven't been able to find his beginnings in England yet. Many theories. Maybe spelling is different.
