Hi everyone
I've just come back to my family tree.
I am having trouble tracing Frederica Headland. She was born abt. 1821 in Wroughton, Wiltshire. Parents Robert and Esther Headland.
I have her baptism and 1841 where she is with her father and his 2nd wife Susannah and in 1851 where she is with her widowed father Robert. After that she seems to disappear with the rest of the family (except for Robert who dies in 1866).
Can anyone see anything further on this family?

Could this be her in 1891 living with widowed Sister Eliza in Bloomsbury St. George, London:
She listed as a housekeeper and a widow.
NAME: Frederica Farrent
BIRTH: abt 1822 - Wooughton, Wiltshire, England
RESIDENCE: Bloomsbury St George, London
Name Age
Eliza Clara 42
Susan Clara 13
Robert Clara 11
Nellie Clara 8
Frederica Farrent 69

This actually looks promising. Frederica had a half sister called Sarah Eliza Headland and she went on to marry James Clare in 1877 in Westminster, London. So the name could be Clare not Clara.
Sarah and James had two children (that I have found so far) called Susannah Frederica Clare born 1878 in Pancras and Robert George Headland born 1880 aslso Pancras.
-
Just checked and Sarah Eliza and James Clare also had a daughter called Nellie Maud Clare born 1882 St. Giles. So that census matches.
-
That's a positive then...still looking for a marriage.

Sarah and James had two children (that I have found so far) called Susannah Frederica Clare born 1878 in Pancras and Robert George Headland born 1880 aslso Pancras.
It would appear that they had another child - Nelly M Clare

That's interesting. They all seem to have some involvement with the theatre.

I can't find her anywhere between 1851 and 1891...using Frederica with no surname, and correct date and place of birth found her in 1891
No matches on Familysearch of Freebmd for a marriage...
Tried surname Farrent/Ferrant date and place of birth with no Christian name and this was the only one and it doesn't match :-\
NAME: John Farrant
SPOUSE: Jane Farrant
BIRTH: abt 1822 - Tidworth, Wiltshire, England
RESIDENCE: 1881 - Limehouse, London, England
I wonder if she emigrated then came back when she lost her husband?

I don't have any idea. There was another sister called Mary Swepson Headland who was the daughter of Robert and Susannah. She was born abt. 1834 in Marlborough Wiltshire, but I can't find anything for her after 1853. She appears in 1853 as a witness to the marriage of my 2 x great grandparents Henry Turner Arminger to Emma Eliza Headland in St. Pancras. Again... nothing after that.

This is probably a complete red herring, but the combination of surname and birthplace made me wonder :-\ I'll throw it into the mix anyway
1871 census

Good find Jen...I considered that one too but was put off with the name Emily and DOB was out.

I'm sure you're right, the age is wrong too ::) Just that the coincidence of surname and birthplace made me wonder.......

Emily F. Farant is in Hampshire in 1891 :-\
So worth a try though.

Is there any evidence that she emigrated and came back?
-
Only the 1891 census by which time she was a widow so maybe she married abroad and came back after her husband died. She was only married for 5 years and looks like she didn't have any children.
Could there have been another F. Headland in the family?
If this is her travelling abroad...she would have been 55 years old in 1886.

I did think that Sarah Eliza Headland could have been the daughter of Frederica. When I checked her birth on the GRO there is no mother's maiden name mentioned even though she is listed on the 1851 as the daughter of Robert. What do you think?
-
More than likely as there is a 27 year age gap between the two women.

I have thrown everything at this and I have run out of ideas now except to try the passenger lists which I don't have access to.

Thanks for all your help. Can you see anything further on Fredericas sister Mary Swepson Headland. She was baptised in 1833. Parents Robert and Susannah Headland

Link to someone else who was looking for Mary Swepson Headland. Perhaps you could contact them to see if they have found any further information.
