I have found a photo of the son of George Swinson, namely Henry who was born in 1799 and died 2 January 1900 near Bromsgrove Worcester. George Swinson was born 1765? and died 11 Feb 1850 and buried at Handsworth Staffs. this information is written on the back of the photo and also states he was granted the right to practice surgery by the company of surgeons of london.
it would be great to find his ancestors who i could send the photo to. I do not have any evidence that the Swinson family is related to mine.
Anyone have advice as to how i can proceed??
Many thanks

Hi not a relation of mine, but I note on the 1851 onwards that Henry b c 1800 Birmingham occ Surgeon was Unmarried and was until his death?
So for any ancestral links it would have to be another son/daughter's decendants who would be interested.

I think you mean "descendants" rather than ancestors to try and give the photo to!
The 100 year old Henry dying in 1900 left a Will, so that might be the place to start as likely he would name any children if he had any, or otherwise other relations, nieces nephews etc. But, having found them you will still have to go at least one more generation forward to stand a chance of finding anyone still alive.

:) Oops I have got Ancestors on the brain!
It would be interesting to find out if this George/Mary had any more children, and interestingly the Ann Williams was Housekeeper for Henry until his death.
1841 census
George Swinson 76
Mary 75
Henry 42
Ann Williams 32
Residing at Field House, Handsworth, Staffordshire

Thanks Keyboard for the information. Does the Will on Anc.... show the beneficiaries as these might be the direct descendents? I could then try and trace the family line to find living relatives?
Thanks again

Ancestry only give the Probate Index - that shows to whom Probate was granted ie the Executors. They may or may not beneficiaries, they may or may not be related, they may just be a solicitor.
To see the actual Will, you need to purchase a copy. This can be done from https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
You will then see how the Estate was to be distributed, and who all the beneficiaries were to be.

Many thanks or the information

Hi all,
I'm still in the process of sorting this lot out but a quick summary.
Joseph Swinson = Ann Newton 1753, Lichfield Staffs > George Swinson bapt. Oct 1764 Lichfield.
George Swinson = Mary Webb 178, Stafford(??) > 1789 George Newton Swinson bapt June 1789
George Newton Swinson = Mary Anne Morgan May 1830 Marlylebone, Middlesex
> Harriet 1832
>George Newton Swinson 1833 = Lucy Dorothy Edwards 853 West Ham, Essex
>Henry 1837
>Mary 1839
>Thomas 1840
>Samuel 1841
http://www.swslhd.nsw.gov.au/bowral125/pdf/Combined.pdf gives history of the hospital in Australia and indicates that Ann Newton is linked to Sir Isaac Newton - but I haven't got that far yet.
