Hi all,
please, can anyone help, and tell me how to cancel my " find my past" subscription

My current subs are to end on 8th Jan 2017 so I do have to contact within 5 days of ending my subs.and because of all this hassle I will not rejoin again,I have been a member of Ancestry for many years and not once have I had any bother getting in, and have had same password there since joining . Be grateful for any suggestions for an easy way out pls !
sincerely, \Dolly

Why don't you ring them - office re-opens 4 January - 020 3326 6300 :)

Thanks for that BumbleB, but thing is my subs end on the 8th and have to be cancelled at least 5 days before that ? I will be going down to my bank soon as and will tell them not to do the transaction, hopefully that might do it. Phew ! talk about blood pressure!
Cheers Dolly

As BumbleB says, phone Findmypast tomorrow, explain the situation and get them to sort it. If the payment goes through, then should be able to refund it, I've seen comments that they have done this via posts on Facebook. I suspect your Bank will ask whether you have contacted FindMyPast anyway, so you may as well try that first. If they won't sort it, only then approach your bank.

Hi Dolly,
on the sign in page, (below log in), try clicking 'forgotten your password?' - if they are like other sites, then they probably reset it and send you a new one via email.
hth,
happy new year,
Lisa

Lisa I have already done that twice tonight, they seem to be just playing around me, you wouldent believe what they are doing each time I try to change anything!! I went into my account and unticked the box( renew my subs )AND WHEN i WENT BACK ON THE TICK WAS THERE AGAIN!! GREMLINS ?

Just to add the sites telephone will not be in use until the 4 th Jan ,, too late then, as cancelling must be made at least 5 days before the contract ends.. They have me all ways! Dolly

You probably did, but just in case you didn't after unticking the do not renew box, remember to tick update my details.
:)

Try sending an email to their support team, from what I remember you get an automated acknowledgement, at least that way you will have proof that you contacted them before the 5 days was up.
Send an email to: support@findmypast.co.uk

I've just cancelled my auto renew after a bit of a struggle. I found I had to put my email address into the "new email address" box, and confirm that it was my email address. Then I deleted my password and re-entered it and also confirmed it underneath. Then I unticked the auto renewal box, then I pressed "Update details". Finally I went back to the page and lo and behold, the auto renewal box was unticked.
I then checked my emails and found three update your details messages. The first two weren't recording the untick auto renewal, but the third (after I'd done all the above) was.
Suggest that's worth a try.

see reply #7 on this thread ( Re: Find My Past £1 offer WORLD SUB)
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01j6l/
which says
"As ever, remember to go to account, personal details, and scroll to the bottom to untick the auto-renewal box! AND now it also asks you for a confirmation and you want to cancel the auto-renew, DON'T be caught out! "
I found the 'confirmation' was on the page after I had unticked the auto-renew box.

Thanks for all your help support team sent email with a link on How to JOIN FindMyPast 😂x. Dolly

I thought they were sneaky in the past when after unticking auto renewal, you had to click to update your details. Many people must have been caught out thinking that just unticking would be enough.
I don't use the site very much and generally only sign up for the odd £1 special offer, but each time they seem to have added an extra step to make it more confusing and difficult to opt out of auto renewal.
Like alpinecottage, I received three emails, two saying I had opted out of "continuous membership" and one saying I had "continuous membership" (or whatever terminology they are now using).
I contacted them to confirm and "Liam" sent me a nice email saying how sorry he was that I was leaving. I replied telling "Liam" he misunderstood, and I had just signed up for a subscription. Then another person sent me a "sorry for the confusion" email confirming that I will not be charged for continuous membership, which is nice. :)
All that fuss for a £1. :)

Dolly, that may be the case but as I have already said, they have sorted out issues for people who have been renewed when they didn't want to and refunded the money paid. Just because you think it will be too late doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. If you don't receive an email response I would suggest you phone them.

Could be worse, The Genealogist expect 2 weeks notice. ::)

Hi just an update on my FindMyPast auto renewal .. After my week in h*** I finally won the day with FindMyPast. After many emails , phone calls etc' all week , they were determined to keep me going, despite my pleas of help etc.
I recently had a stroke and have to watch my BP which was rising daily with all the unbelievable stress I had, and told them of this, but all they wanted was my money!
They sent me details of my "new" account £119 00 which started Sunday, (today) took no notice of my angry emailing. well they had to give in because they sent me an emaiil asking for the new details of my credit card, which I had forgotten that I now had a different one. needless to say I did not! I never want to hear of FindMyPast again.... Talk about a support line... They had no time to help anyone who couldent fathom out how to cancel their account.. so be warned ....... Thanks for the advice too, Dolly

well they had to give in because they sent me an emaiil asking for the new details of my credit card, which I had forgotten that I now had a different one.
You were lucky there, as when my house insurance came up for renewal I realised a week later that they had my old card number, so rang them in a panic thinking that I wasn't insured. "Don't worry" was the reply, "the bank accepted payment from the old card." I could have understood that if the new card had been recent but the old one had expired at least 4 months earlier.
-
I'd better be lucky if Halifax pays FindMyPast I will take out all the cash thats in x Dolly
-
I wouldn't worry, as Halifax would have to reimburse you, as you have enough emails to prove that you told FindMyPast to cancel your payments.
-
Phew that's a relief xthanks Dolly
