Title: Richard Deville of Spalding
Post by: redjed1 on Friday 23 December 16 03:55 GMT (UK)
Hi,
Richard Deville (sometimes Devol or something inbetween) was my ancestor who died in Spalding in 1616 and is said to be buried in Spalding churchyard. He's my farthest back ancestor that I know of and I'm looking for any birth details (around 1530-1540 ?). I think he married in Spalding about 1560-5. In his will, it says he was a yeoman and sounds like he was well-to-do.

Any help finding information on him would be much appreciated.
John

Hi Trish, thats the one. My line goes through their son Thomas.

Thomas' son William sailed to America in the 1640s. The family were there for the next 6 generations before they returned to the UK. One of the Devols was so fed up being called a Devil that he changed his name to Dee.

Trying to progess the line further back to see where the French comes in.
