Afternoon all,
I'm trying to find the above and not sure if to post this in the Ireland or Liverpool thread?
I believe that she lived in Ireland and married her husband Daniel McKevitt ( or Cavitt) over there. They moved to Liverpool about 1850 prior to the birth of my 2nd great grandfather James McKevitt.
I am guessing Co Down area simply as my Mum says thats where the McKevitts came from. However I haven't found a birth or marriage cert for any of them as yet ??!!.
Any suggestions? or should I repost in a more appropriate thread?

Is she the Sarah Ann Cavit aged 68 in Toxteth Workhouse in the 1891 census? That confirms Co. Down as birthplace.

A Sarah Swords living in the townland of Ballylough in Tullylish parish married Daniel Cavit of Annaclone on 14 January 1842 in Seapatrick Parish Church (Church of Ireland, Holy Trinity, Church Square Banbridge), the witnesses were a Jacob Emerson and Mary Jane Walsh. Fathers not mentioned.
Someone called Jacob Emerson was also a witness to the marriage of an Elizabeth Swords to a Robert Elliott in Magherally Church of Ireland on 4 August 1845, Elizabeth was living in the townland of Tonaghmore in Magherally parish, her father was recorded as Hugh Swords, a soldier.
A Margaret Swords of Tonaghmore, Magherally, married a James Warnock in Seapatrick RC Church on 8 September 1851, her father was given as Hugh Swords, a pensioner.
And a marriage on 19 December (today!) 1861 was registered at Banbridge for a Thomas Swords living in the townland of Edenderry to Martha Beck, his father was given as Hugh Swords, a pensioner.
So just a possibility to consider is that Sarah was the daughter of Hugh. The following link shows the County Down civil parishes, note the touchpoint between the parishes of Tullylish and Magherally, if you click on each parish (57. and 67.) to show a map of its townlands, the proximity of Ballylough, Tonaghmore and Edenderry will become clear:

A few County Down references are at the link below, including the suggestion that Swords was an old county surname a.k.a. Crolly (and variants):
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/S/StuSy.htm
The tithe applotment books show Hugh Swords in Tonaghmore, Magherally, the year was 1833. A 70 year old Hugh Swords was/is buried at Seapatrick, no other information available (not even date of burial).

There are army pension records for Hugh Swords of 82nd Regiment, admitted to out-pension 27 November 1816, deceased 20 January 1861 aged 80, Banbridge.
Looking for more on him...

Goodness Gaffy that sounds all very promising.
Did it matter that the name variants from Sarah on Irish records to Sarah Ann on UK census ? also the variants of the name Cavitt to McKevitt in Liverpool?
The Swords family from Co Down sound interesting thats for sure.
Thanks

No, variation in the names is par for the course. It has to be said, Swords were not thick on the ground in County Down, there was another small cluster in the Downpatrick area, that's about it, given the co-incidence in the 1842 marriage of the Swords surname with the right forename, in the ballpark timewise, and with a 'Cavit' spouse to boot, it is very attractive.
Just noticed that what looks like the same Thomas Swords who married Martha Beck in 1861 married again in 1882 (there's a Martha Beck death in the area in 1868), again the father is given as Hugh, a soldier:

Hi,
Looks like it has been some years, since anyone posted. Sarah and Daniel are my 3x Grandparents, so it was handy to find this inofrmation about them. Many thanks :)
-
Hi Victoria we are related ! As Sarah and Daniel are also my 3x grandparents. I follow their son James line which is on my mum's side of the family.
I've been able to get more info on Hugh Swords which I've added to my tree on another site. Let me know if you would like to share information.
Thanks Sue
