Am hoping someone might have some ideas.
Isabella Waddle/Waddell - I can find her birth and marriage in Sunderland -plus the birth of her children, the last one been in 1941. the trail then goes cold. I know the family moved to Bradford during the war. I can't find her death (under either surname). What could of happened to her?
-
maybe she was widowed and remarried?
When was she born? Who did she marry?
-
So , Waddell was her birth name, Nimmo her married name, not the other way round! (just found birth reg and marriage)
So:
Marriage
Jan/feb/Mar 1952
Bradford
2b 315
Isabella Nimmo / Anthony O'Connor
Death
Jun 1964
Dewsbury
2b 298
Isabella O'Connor
age 56
-
plus the birth of her children, the last one been in 1941.
If she is the Isabella Waddle born 1924 in Sunderland - she would only have been 17yrs old in 1941
-
Looks like possibly a divorce rather than widowhood, as first hubby doesn't die till 1990, age 87
Death
March 1990
Bradford
4 457
Samuel Archer R Nimmo
age 87

I think her birth is
Apr/May/Jun 1903
Sunderland
10a 792
Isabella Waddle
that fits with the remarriage and death I found.

Hi Liz - beat me to it. Was just about to post that the Isabella b 1924 married in 1944 to a different person

That's what confused me I knew she was not widowed as I remember meeting Samuel Nimmo in my childhood. I knew there was a family feud but did not know any more than that and there was never any talk about that side of the family, other than the family moved from Sunderland to Bradford during the war. I have no idea if the children stayed with their mum or stayed with their dad. A divorce in that time must have been rare?

Getting the marriage cert to O'Connor might be interesting - to see if she says "previous marriage dissolved", or spinster or widow!

Hello
I knew the Nimmo family in the West Bowling area of Bradford more specifically Harold (known as Bob) and his sister whom I knew as Isabel. I am sorry I cannot remember their parents.
I lost touch when I went into the army in 1960 and the widening of the then very nearby Manchester Road circa 1964 caused a major upheaval of families. I note from BMD that Harold married an Ann Varley in 2nd qtr 1963.

Wow. Thanks for that. My grampa was Alfred brother to Harold and Isobel. He passed away in June this year. As I said before I heard there was a fall out years ago and there was no mention of my grampa's family. His sisters did go to his funeral, I think one of them may of been Isobel.

Quite a coincidence really. Just a matter of a few weeks ago I was remarking to my wife that the forenames on censuses in some cases must bear no resemblance to their actual registered name and I happened to mention Bobby Nimmo. After growing up with him through the late forties/fifties one day out of the blue he said "you know my name is not Bobby it's Harold". So I asked him why he got called Bobby? His reply was "because my parents always said I was bobbing up where I shouldn't". Good enough reason I suppose. :)

Alf's oldest son was called Robert. He was known as Bob. That makes sence that he was named after someone in the family.
-
My name is Samantha born Samantha Dawn nimmo daughter of Robert but unfortunately I lost touch with him Jackie and James when he sold his house in Maidstone and bought a yatch and went sailing around the world about 16 years ago.

My mum is Ann nee Varley. They got divorced when I was little and Michael and me were adopted in 1970. Dad remarried a lady called Jackie. They moved to Vinters Park Maidstone Kent. My cousin is Robbie Flemming one of owners of Pace Alfred and Hetties son. I met dad when I was 18.
