Hello - could anyone help?
I am trying to find out what happened to Bollettie Mary Davies after she divorced my (cad of a...) grandfather, Herman George Tankersley Davies, in Dunedin in 1916 ("George", as he was known, having left for Oz with another woman in 1911 - and that was just the start....).
Bollettie appears to have married a Thomas Edgar Hobbs in 1919, but after that I have drawn a blank. Was there any issue from that match, I wonder, and where and when did they live and die?
I am also, particularly, curious to learn the fate of Bollettie's child with Davies, Walter Hansen (b. 1909): there too, I have found nothing.
Many, many thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Hi
I'm not able to open the link provided by JJen in Reply # 3 regarding the tree in which Thomas Edgar HOBBS is mentioned ? So not sure if you have the following info ?
The "New Zealand Herald" newspaper of 27 March 1941 carried his death notice. There is no mention of any children.
"HOBBS - On 25 March at Northcote, Thomas Edgar, dearly beloved husband of Bolettie Mary HOBBS, in his 58th year. Private interment.
In the same newspaper, on same date, a brief article on his death and the inquest.

Dear all
I am quite overwhelmed by the generosity of your response. Thank you all so much, you have provided an extraordinarily rich trove of information in almost no time at all.
With everything you have given me, I am close to being able to close out the NZ chapter of my investigations (upstream of Bollettie, the Rasmussens are legion and accessibly documented).
I have, however, one final question that is eating me. Bollettie's first husband, my colourful but decidely dastardly grandfather, Herman George Tankersley Davies, was born in Otago in 1882, the son of Walter Davies and Annie Elizabeth Dodd. I have quite a lot about the Dodds, and some information on Walter - but not when he immigrated to NZ from England. Would it be possible to find this out?
No worries if this is a tall order - my cup runneth already over ...
Many thanks again to all concerned
All the best,
Richard

On the link I gave didn't spot where Annie Elizabeth Dodd was born?
Was it Australia?
The names below are mentioned on that post
Don't have access to look at this record
Ann Elizabeth Dodd
Mother Bethany F(T)ankersley
Father Henry Dodd
Victoria, Australia
Is it possible that Walter came to Australia first? :-\
There's this record year of birth is a close match
Walter Davies Age: 20 (1855)

Hi Richard
Can you tell us please what you currently have for Walter DAVIES ... it saves us from having to trawl through those long earlier threads. ;)
Year of birth ... his death and where it occurred ... his occupation ...
Of course since the earlier information was gathered for Alison? ... many new records have become available.

Dear Lu and Ladyhawk
Many thanks, and sorry for being so vague (new to this).
Walter Davies b. 1856 Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England - draper
1871 census has him still single, still living in Shrewsbury
1881 m. Annie Elizabeth Dodd in Dunedin
1893 died NZ
So he migrated (a dirty word nowadays - but these boards and history show it is what makes the world go round!) some time between 1871 and 1881.
So Ladyhawk's suggestion (arr. Australia 1875, aged around 20) would fit.
Many thanks
Richard
-
PS Ladyhawk: Annie Elizabeth Davies née Dodd b. 1857 Victoria, Australia - so that would also fit with Walter arriving first in Oz c. 1875.
It was Annie's mother , Bethany Dodd née Tankersley (hence my grandgrather - and uncle's - weird given name) who emigrated from Lincolnshire to Victoria. Her first four children were born there - in '56, '57, '59 and '61. Her 5th child was born in '62 in Dunedin.

Thanks Richard ... that's a great help. ;)
re: Walter DAVIES ... have just found a further snippet of info in New Zealand records which requires further investigation but might hopefully lead to determining how/when Walter arrived in NZ.
