William Thomas married a Scots lass whom he met on the boat from Britain. The ceremony is said to have taken place in Sydney in 1930, but I don't know the bride's name. Can anyone help? William was from Bargoed in old South Wales, if that helps.
Fingers crossed!

Gareth

Hi Gareth
As you will have noted there were a number of marriages in his name that year.
Have you the name of the ship or month of arrival?
This may narrow down the time-frame.
Can you tell us please the names of the parents of William Thomas.
This can be a great help in tracing people in Australia.
Did he die here?

I am in Wales and have no access to Australian records, but I'm not surprised there were several William Thomases getting married there in 1930 - our forefathers were a bit unimaginative in their choice of names, unfortunately!
Billy left London on Dec 8, 1928, arriving in Sydney in February 1929. His parents may have been James Thomas and wife Mabel (nee Davies), though that is not certain. He returned to Britain in the last quarter of 1931. Hope this helps.

Gareth

Do you have a middle name for William THOMAS?
What was the year of their arrival?
Just a long shot

Thank you for trying, Cup of Life, but I know that Billy (and therefore the girl he met on the boat) arrived in February 1929. I don't have a middle name for him; the 1911 British Census that I believe shows the family simply refers to him as Willie, though he was certainly known as Billy as an adult. Unfortunately, every street in Wales at the time would have had a William Thomas or two!

Having a knowledge of your previous requests and posts, do we assume that this William THOMAS was a boxer?
I found this reference for a boxer of the name in 1931

Yes, Sue, that would be him.

So, are you saying his residency in Australia ended when he returned to UK in 1931, and that is where he died?
Did not the wife go with him?
Sorry, not sure what you are looking for here ;)
ADDING
Ok. Now you have given the name he worked under, BILLY THOMAS, there are plenty of references to him in the newspaper.

Thanks for your help, Sue. I assume his wife returned to Britain with him. What I don't know is her name, which would help me track down any Welsh-born children to follow Carrie.

You need to delete the name as I have done in my quote. See my above post re living people, please.
If you have read carefully what I linked above you will understand that the circumstances and dates would have almost certainly make it necessary for the "wife" to return with Billy to England.
There was no mention of any marriage of Billy that I can locate, so the term "wife" may or may not be quite accurate.
Nor can I locate a news item mentioning his actual departure for Britain (alone or otherwise).

Thank you for your hard work, Sue, it's appreciated. Sorry about mentioning his daughter's name, but as she was named in the linked item I assumed it was OK. If I knew the name of the "wife", I could check for a marriage in Britain, but without that there are so many William Thomases that it would be impossible. Is it perhaps available via the daughter's birth registration - or was she not registered in Australia?
