Hello there,
Has anyone been researching the Garnett family which was prominent in Crosthwaite & Lyth, Westmorland, in the eighteenth century? I am descended from George Garnett (1702-1783) who was born in Crosthwaite and died in Heversham. I understand there may be a connection to the Anthony Garnett of the sixteenth century Castle Dairy house in Kendal, and ergo to the noble Parr family. Certainly the name Anthony Garnett is a recurring name throughout the generations of Garnetts in my family. I would be keen to hear from anyone who has a shared connection or further information. Any assistance or directions would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Steve Wilkinson

Have you checked surname interest board,at the bottom of the page?

Hello
There is a baptism in Crosthwaite.
George Garnett 9.11.1702 son of George Garnett.
siblings Margaret 15.11.1685, Agnes 2.11.1690,Bridgett 6.11.1694 Joseph 28.5.1700,and Mary 28.2.1706
It looks like George senior was baptised at Crosthwaite 30.8.1657 s of William Garnett
William could be the William 29.7.1621 s of Anthony at Kendal or 10.6.1635 at Crosthwaite the former would fit the story you have and the latter may be the same father just moving parish.

Hello,
I have revisited my research notes, and to my knowledge I cannot prove a descent from the George Garnett mentioned in my first post above. The earliest known Garnett ancestor in my line is William Garnett (c.1786-1859) who was married to my ancestress Jane Armistead. I am keen to trace his baptism record and his parents' names, but I have yet to discover a baptism for him in Old Hutton, Westmorland, which was his place of birth according to the 1851 census entry. One record which often surfaces online is a baptism of a William Garnett in Heversham, on 27 August 1786, the son of William Garnett and Eleanor Bindloss. I can safely rule this out, as that William can be traced elsewhere in later life. Any help to trace the baptism of the correct William would be gratefully received!
Kind regards,
Steve Wilkinson

Hi, I'm related to William Garnett, A Farmer at Kirfitt Hall, Westmorland who had a son George Garnett.
-
Hi Adey,
Do you have any further details / dates?
Steve
-
Yes It seems to be the same William Garnett (1786-1864) buried at Casterton married to Jane Armistead although the circa dates you have are different to mine. He's my 4th Gt.Grandfather Brother to John Bindloss Garnett. I have all the family history going back to the 1500's
Are you sure about his parents not being William and Eleanor ?

Hi
I have just found your research with regards to the Garnett family . I myself have links to the Garnett family name . In my own research I have Agnes Garnett born oct 1 1648 in Crosthwaite .She married Thomas Townson. Her father was William Garnett born 1608 and mother Elizabeth. Williams father was Anthony , birth date unknown. If you have any connections or information with regards to Agnes and her parents I would be very keen to learn more .
Regards
Richie

Hi Adey,
Unfortunately, there are some errors in your research there. We may be connected somewhere along the line, but the William Garnett you mention who was the son of William Garnett and Eleanor Bindloss is not the same William Garnett (my ancestor) who married Jane Armistead. William Garnett and Jane Armistead only had 3 children, my ancestor Nancy (1819-1877), Sarah (1826-1917), and Anthony (1830-1901). Jane was William's second wife, as he was widowed from Hannah Prickett, with whom he had one child, William (1807-1887). He didn't have a son called George and there was no connection to Tatham as they all lived in Milnthorpe near Heversham all their lives, although William was born in nearby Old Hutton. I've done a lot of research on this branch over the years and have all the original sources to confirm this. I'd be happy to have a look for you and check the origin of your George, if you like.
Best wishes,
Steve

It took a while but got to the bottom of it in the end, My William Married Jane Whitehead at Melling in 1824 and Not Jane Armistead at Heversham which most people seem to have in their Tree, which is incorrect, I also had the same Error which has now been corrected. Thanks to S S who helped me see the error and Thanks to you for pointing me in the right direction. :)

Hi-have just seen your post on the Garnetts. Like you, Richie, I have Agnes Garnett b 1658 wife of Thomas Townson. I have only just started work on this line and hope the Ancestry hints are correct with the Anthony Garnett of Castle Dairy heritage! I have a William Garnett of Rusmickle Farm as Agness father and Anthony, also Rusmickle as his father. It then goes to James Garnett. Am a bit confused by the Crosby Ravensworth mentions also Elizabeth Dent of Morland (I have her in my tree elsewhere) as the wife of William. Any info you have gratefully received. Thank you 😊
