Just looking at Donald bn 1885

I can see him on 1891 with mother Annie and some siblings. Wrongly indexed as Anderson, but that is the family above.

Cant see him on 1901
When does he emigrate?  Have you confirmed all the alleged marriages are his? Are they in UK ir NZ?

FamilySearch has a Donald Forrest aged 18, a labourer, emigrating to N.Z: (destination Wellington) on 27th April 1903 (on the 'Gothic').
Underneath his name is David Forrest aged 22 but it looks like this entry is crossed out.

NZ BMD has two marriages for a Donald Forrest,
1909 to Marguerite Hall
1917 to Bessie Muldoon.

There is also a marriage in 1932 between Phyllis Quin and Donald Bruce Forrest but he appears to be unrelated as his father is Alfred Forrest

Donald and Marguerite appear to have had at least four children.

Death notice for first wife

Notice for second marriage - says groom's father was Captain David Forrest, South Shields

Is the following article about your chap? I could not see a death registered for Donald Forrest at this time or later but may have missed. Otherwise, going by your family story, perhaps they did not find a body and he reappeared elsewhere under a different name? I see several Ancestry trees have him dying in Australia, an obvious place to disappear to, though those trees did look somewhat variable in quality - definitely a good idea to try and verify the fate of Donald Forrest.

A 1920 court case which may relate to your man, given the names Muldoon and Forrest

If you raise a query on the Rootschat New Zealand board (put a link to this one so people can see what has been found) I am sure that they will find a great deal more information for you.

You might also like to ask the NZ board to check out the possibility that Donald Forrest's second wife (Bessie Muldoon) was the paternal aunt of one of NZ's more famous prime ministers, Robert Muldoon

This seems to be the arrival record for Bessie Muldoon & family:

I see from the census that Donald did have a brother David, but he was younger, not older, so the immigration record I gave you is probably wrong.
But in that case beware, because there seem to be two Donald Forrests in NZ at the same time (as usually happens!  >:( )

Hello ABaldwin

This thread has of course been linked to your post on the New Zealand board, but it seems prudent to add a reply here as well.  ;)

You mention that you know "from ancestry" of some aspects of Donald FORREST's life (- and so I'm presuming you mean you've looked at "trees" on that website ?)

If your focus is to find descendants of this man, can I suggest that you return to the ancestry site and seek out the very comprehensive "tree" which covers not only the life of Donald but most of his immediate family.    It has been most thoroughly documented (I was impressed  ;) ) ... and features copies of BMD certificates, newspaper clippings, etc. etc. along with comments on Donald FORREST's "colourful" life both in New Zealand and Australia.   A number of people appear to have contributed information.
And it seems Donald may have died in Australia (Brisbane ? 1954 ?) under an assumed name.

It looks as if all the "hard work" in digging up information on "your"  FORREST family in New Zealand, had already been done ?

Yes i know the work had been done for me through ancestry as his immediate descendants have put in the work for which i am trully very grateful.
