Title: Anfield Cemetary

After excitedly finding the ref for a ancestors burial plot in Anfield cemetery  Gen area 4 no 642
I found what I think was the correct area but no headstone ect found, graves 640 645 & 646 could be found but in no sort of order.
Are head stones missing or could my Samuel Gabriel been buried with no head stone?
Anyone have any experience that could pass comments?

It is possible the grave is a communal one, if they were poor,I know I had to search for a couple in that cemetary and I later found it to be that. Good luck Tsumi

We're following each other around Steven.  I once went to Anfield to find my grandfather's grave but there was no headstone.  I was later told that grandmother didn't have the money for one so there was no chance.  I found the grave by counting the numbers on the headstones along the line.

Hi Steven,

My husband has a relative buried in Anfield. A headstone was not on the grave but the grave number was shown on a concrete block in the ground.

Thanks for all the replies!
But I`m still at a loss to how the graves are numbed they don`t seem to be in any sort of order!
The one I was looking for Gen area 4 no 642 it seem the numbers are all over the place
I plan on returning to Liverpool in the next month or so to see if I can find other family members approx deaths 1877,1894 & 1900 all Liverpool some where!

TALKING ABOUT HEADSTONES,IWAS THERE TODAY LOOKING AROUND FOR RAWLINSONS, THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE HAVE BEEN PUSHING DOWN HUNDREDS OF HEADSTONES,BECAUSE OF A HEALTH HAZARD IN CASE ONE FALLS OVER AND HURTS SOMEONE

I found that an e-mail to shizzy@blueyonder.co.uk can reap rich rewards re-Anfield cemetery - Liverpool Ancestors is a project cataloguing Liverpool cemeteries/graves/headstones. I found here very helpful locating my recent ancestors.

There is at least one section where the gravestones don't follow on as they should., I can't think of it at the moment.
There is a chap who used to work at Anfield and he usually visits the crematorium area each day, he has alot of info on Anfield Cemetery, his name is Bob Halliday and he would be happy to help you.
Any of the grave diggers will point him out to you.
