Title: TANDRIDGE Village -Boorer- Ashby-Wood -Wickens
Post by: Grandad james on Monday 26 July 04 19:15 BST (UK)
Hello All, ???
I am presently trying to unravel a tangled web regarding Alfred Boorer 1841-1913. Illegitimate son of Martha BOORER ,she later married John  WOOD in 1846.
Alfred kept the name Boorer and  had a Tile and Brick Making Business with Wicking Family in Tandridge.
There was also  another Boorer - Wood marriage in Lingfield in 1852.
Somewhere a family called ASHBY are also connected.
Hoping someone may have connections somewhere... I have entries from 1871.1881.1891 and 1901 census.

I am looking for information re anything prior to 1871 and any directory entries for Tandrige Village.
Alfred married Jane CORNFORD in 1865 .No children.
She is mentioned in Probate along with a WOOD and CORNFORD in 1913.
I am following this up.
Cheers
Grandad james.

Grandad james,

I can't help you untangle the web, but there are several entries for Boorer in the Directories.  Found at
www.historicaldirectories.org

Wicking & Boorer, Tandridge, Redhill: Brick & Tiles Manufacturers, Coal & Coke Merchants, Drain-pipe makers. (PO Directory 1878)

Kelly's 1891: Alfred Boorer, brick, tile and drainpipe manufacturer & coal merchant in Crowhurst, also at Tandridge.

The above site has been revamped and you can now search individual directories.  Much improved - I recommend it to all.

Good luck,

Nell

Hi,
Thank you so much. :D

I am pleased about the directory site being revamped and will now look again.
Gave up last time as it was taking forever.
The Crowhurst bit in the 1891 directory is a very good new clue..

Thanks again.

Grandad James.

Hi Denis,

Many thanks for the names....
I suspect that BOOWR and even BOW is in fact BOORER.

I have a BOW family listed in a census and they are definately BOORER.... ???

I shall follow up and see what develops..

Can I assist you in any way with census info ?
...I have had a quick look at 1861 and have Ethelberts family...

Cheers James.
