Title: Archibald Bennet
Post by: Peter Ramsay on Sunday 20 November 16 21:26 GMT (UK)
Hi, whille searching my gg grandfather James Suttie Ramsay of Arbroath , I came across a court case in 1870, involving his wife my gg grandmother Mary { Annan } Ramsay. It was about The Conjugal Rights Act of 1861 and in the court papers and appears that Archibald Bennet who died 18th January 1868 in Edinburgh left Mary a considerable ammount of property. I have been unable to find the outcome of the court case as Mary {Annan } Ramsay died in 1874?. Apparently from what I have found James Suttie Ramsay re married in 1874 to a Grace Steven in Arbroath on the 28th of April. Any help would be appreciated Peter Annan Ramsay .

Hi Peter,

Have you tried searching the British Newspapers Section on FindMyPast? It sounds like the sort of case that might have recieved a mention in the Press of the time.

Romilly.
