Not sure why you posted this in "The Lighter Side"? ???

Joseph Carter is a very common name - even Joseph T Carter isn't exactly rare?!
Have you found him on the 1939 National Register?

I looked at FreeBMD for a birth for Florence (as the least common name of the 3 children). But there are so many Florence Carter's out there!
Between 12 and 20 every year!

I'm not sure your family tale really holds water?
How did a "Scottish Granny" still manage to produce 3 children?

Joseph Thomas Carter birth registered Oct-Nov-Dec 1885 Eastbourne Sussex

1891 born Eastbourne 1886, with parents and 4 other children.
Not with family 1901 or 1911 and no clear trace elsewhere?

16 trees on Ancestry some with the same information as your post.

Do you know when and where Florence, Mary ,& Robert were born?

Colin

thank you for  your  input    firstly  i have  not  used  the  lighter side  for  along  time   and  i went  straight  to  it   so  if  someone  wants  to  move  it  then do  so  to  the  right  section
secondly  hes  not  on the  1939  registers   i have  even  asked  ancestry  personally   and  they cant  find  him   .Hes  just  a  mystery   and  i personally dont   think we  will find  him   YET
thirdly   i said  the  children  are  a  possibility    but  not  sure  if  we  are  going  up  on a  banana boat  . we  have  been looking   from 1916 onwards   and  nothing  .Scottish granny   could  be  a  red  herring  i know   but  some of the  family seems  to  have  heard  of  and  known as  scottish granny   but  didnt know  her  real name  .
one  of  Joseph brothers  was  Nelson Victor  Carter   a  VC  holder   and  all the  other  brothers  was  in the  army

thank you
zillah

Ancestry don't hold the 1939 National Register - so rather pointless asking them! ;D

Wikipedia page re Nelson Carter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelson_Victor_Carter
If it helps anyone, he was born on 6 April 1887 to Richard Carter, of Hailsham; husband of Kathleen Carter, of 33 Greys Road, Old Town, Eastbourne.

FreeBMD has a birth for Robert E Carter, March qtr 1923, St Faith's Registration District (Norfolk)
or
Another Robert E Carter, June qtr 1923, Canterbury Registration District
