Hi, I'm a new poster who is a bit stuck. Anyone got a spare pair of eyes?
I'm looking for parents/siblings of my gt gt g/m Sarah Marskell who married Charles Thomas Gibson in New Zealand in1882 and lived here till their death. The wedding cert says she was born in London 1861 to William Marskell and Fanny Howard.
I can't find a Fanny Howard married to William Marskell.
I can find Hannah/Hanah (aka Fanny) Pallett/Pellett (2nd quarter of 1855 London Vol 1A Page 50) who married William Marskell.
I can find Kensington, London baptism records for children of William and Fanny Marskell listed as Elizabeth (1856), Fanny (1857), William Samuel (1863) and Sarah(1861). Timing of the marriage and births of the kids seem right. How would I find out if Fanny Pallet/Fanny Howard are the same person. Sarah and her female siblings were in and out of the workhouse a fair bit if that helps with process of elimination.

The mothers maiden name on the birth registrations should indicate Hannah/Fannys birth surname. As she married as Pallett I suspect that when Sarah married she had no idea of her mothers former surname and maybe made Howard up.

Cheers Rosie. That was swift!. The info you found matches what I have found so that is good and suggests I am on the right track. Will get a copy of the birth cert from England and see if that confirms my belief that it is Pallett not Howard that is Sarah's mother.

Sarah's birth registration (index) indicates that the mother is Pallett. Maybe the marriage certificate would give more information :-\

I don't know if this is linked:
In 1861, there is a William and Fanny Marshal in Kensington, with a daughter, Elizabeth, age 5. However, the image looks more like Marskell. The only problem is that there are two children who don't fit - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7K4-893
West Middlesex Advertiser and Family Journal 22 September 1866:
Kensington Board of Guardians. A woman named Marskell admitted to the house, stating that she had been deserted by her husband. He came to fetch her but she came back again. This time, the husband asked the board to let her stay because he was unable to maintain her. He said she had committed adultery with several persons etc. etc.
Bucks Herald 18 January 1868:
Fanny Marskell commited to prison for vagrancy - 14 days
In 1870, a Fanny Marskell married a William Howell, which is not too different from Howard.
Is this Hannah Pallett in 1841? - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQJF-YJT
And 1851? - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGXR-G3X
If so, she married at 15-16.

Thanks for the extra leads. Gives me some more to go on. Doesn't sound like Fanny was up for mother of the year.
