Hi sorry if this post is in the wrong place! I'm seeking to find out information on Lizzie Rollo who married my grandfathers father James Milne not sure on date nobody seems to know much on Lizzie except she may have been adopted! They came from Dundee Scotland I don't even know when she died etc.

Hi Beck
You can now search for free on Scotlands People. Do a search for Lizzie Milne and put Rollo in the other name box and Angus in the county box. There is one result in Dundee in 1983 which may be for the lady you are looking for. Given the year of death you will not be able to view the certificate online but you could order it. This would hopefully provide the information you are looking for.

Thanks for that

Hi
Not sure if you have the marriage date - SP has a marriage between Lizzie Rollo and James Milne in 1925, Mains and Strathmartine, Angus.
The online certificate would be 6 credits and should give info about her age/parents, etc. without having to order it.

Hi again
it took ages for me to repeat the search - SP is getting odd with it's searches. I eventually just searched with Rollo and 1925 and it came up - Lizzie Rollo, clicked on spouse details and it gave James Milne.
Thought you might have similar problems so I viewed it - she was 33, a jute spinner, and her mother was Helen Rollo (Housekeeper). No father given.
PM me your e-mail and I'll send the copy.

Hi Beck,
Have you viewed Lizzie's birth cert?
What makes you think she was adopted?

Hi Annie no I haven't viewed certificate because unsure of her birth dates etc! My grandmother said she was adopted but that's all we know!

You wouldn't, really, unless you happen to know who adopted her.
There was no formal adoption process in Scotland until 1930, so if she was adopted, it would have been an informal arrangement between the people involved, and would not have generated any sort of official record.
You could try looking for her in the 1911 census. Unless she took the surname of her adoptive parents she should be easy enough to find there, and if she was living with them that would give you their names. However if she was married as Rollo, this suggests that she didn't use their surname.

As Forfarian says, she was married as Rollo, she gave her mother's name s Helen Roll, no father's name on cert and she was living with her mother in 1901 and 1911 - I posted this and the 1901 census yesteday. Rosie posted a possible birth entry as well.
