Sorry if this has been covered off before. I did do a search but got too many results to sift through.
I have received my kit and went to PaperPlus to send it off, and they said I had to pay postage, and that the "postage paid" on the box only applied it if you are sending it from within Ireland.
Is this right?

Hi
Looks like there's a dedicated thread at Ancestry for asking such questions. The advertising on ancestry.com.au (Australia ) site, is showing that the price for these kits "excludes shipping / postage costs" ... while a query about DNA kits supplied in the US, suggests that they come with a "postage or shipping, pre-paid label" . ???

In Canada postage was covered

SpudKiwi,
I've moved your topic from the New Zealand board here to the DNA Testing board, just in case people from other countries have any experience with this.

Thanks for moving my post, but I was hoping for NZ specific replies.
The kit I have has a big sticker on it saying the return box is postage prepaid international. But our local Post wasn't convinced.

Hi there
Pop onto the Trade Me site and to the Community Boards, Genealogy, and ask the ladies on there. I'm pretty sure some of them have used Ancestry and may be of help.
I used ftDNA so can only give you that postage for my kits are about $14 to post back to the USA...

The link below seems to answer the question. It seems not to cover anything like the Ancestry/DNA postage.

That's fine, I'll move it back over to the NZ board for you now. :)

Hello SpudKiwi,
A couple of suggestions:-
If it is possible, you could go to one of the main post offices, rather than a branch, such as those in PaperPlus.
Or you could contact New Zealand Post:
https://www.nzpost.co.nz/contact-support
There is an 0800 number at the foot of the web page.......

Hi Spudkiwi
I had my DNA done last Christmas (I also live in New Zealand). I did not have to pay postage. I am pretty sure there was a sticker included in the kit to cover postage.

Thanks Minniehaha and Carawa, but it's done now. Based on replies in Trademe I've just popped it in the postbox. So hopefully by Christmas I'll have my results. :)

:)Hi
re DJOCAM. Those testing with FTDNA in NZ can post sample back by LETTERPOST at $2.70. Make sure the pack is as flat as possible as some postal employees will say its too thick. They will then charge you $14 as for a parcel. FTDNA or Ancestry return packages can be declared "Family History Pack. NCV". NCV - no commercial value. Alternately maybe $1. If declared as DNA pack, it could be construed as sending human materials (which of course, it is) through the post. A "letter" is less likely to need a customs declaration - but I do make a note on the back of my return letters.

I have since July ordered 3 separate Ancestry DNA tests, and with each one, I didn't have to pay any postage whatsoever. Have received the results for 2 of the tests and now just waiting for the third, so obviously Ancestry received and processed them even without me paying postage. Hope that helps.
-
I just got a confirmation from Ancestry that they have received my sample. So the system works.
Thumbs down for PaperPlus.
-
Hi ... just curious ... do Paper Plus run a postal (NZ Post Office) agency in the place where you live ?
~ Lu
-
Yes, they do.
I think they were just trying to scam postage out of me.
-
Cheers.
It's a shame with these agencies taking over postal services - many of the new operators don't have anywhere near the skills or knowledge we could expect from the NZ Post Staff of yesteryear.
Glad you got it sorted anyway (.... and didn't get "scammed".) ;D

My results just came back, so definitely no postage was required.

??? Hi there, how long will it take to shipping from NZ to Ireland? I have gave the Ancestry Prepaid box to a NZ post server in Paperplus last month on 30th Oct and she said she would process it. But, so far nothing coming back from the Ancestry DNA website..
-
Never mind for my previous reply. It's all good now. :)

I sent my kit back 12 nov and its now 11 dec without any confirmation that its been received in Ireland yet. Starting to think something went wrong.
Did everyone else just have the carboard box with a sticker on it with the return details? I have it to the nzpost worker and they were a little confused but then said its all good it will send.
Did anyone need to fill out a customs form or anything?
I wish i paid for extra tracking and put my details on the box in case it had to be returned to sender

Mail to and from New Zealand has been delayed incredibly because of a lack of flights into or out of the country. CanadaPost wasn't even accepting anything more than letter mail for New Zealand three months ago because of the backlog. It took me longer than four weeks to get confirmation that a package posted from Canada to Ireland 11 months ago arrived, so I certainly wouldn't be worrying that something has gone wrong at this stage.

I posted a kit off in September (from Australia) that hadn't been received by them. I messaged in December and they sent a new kit to try again, free of additional charges so I suggest you contact them about it if your DNA hasn't been updated on the website.

Hi, I received my kit last month, and went to NZ post yesterday to send. They said I needed a tariff number and need to complete the customs "consignment note". When I phoned ancestory.com.au NZ number today, the guy (in USA) didn't know anything about a tariff number, and did say that australia post not accepting anything to the UE at moment due to covid. Does anyone know of the tariff code? thanks
