Good Evening all,
I was wondering if anyone has come across something I found
tonight while searching the online Victorian BDM page.
I have a birth recorded, that I got the details from the old Macbeth disc
(which now don't work on Windows 10 >:( ) but when I went
to check something on the online listings it said there were no results.
I tried all options, Surname only, mother and father only and registration no -
nothing at all.
Probably just a missed entry but it's had me thinking how many others might be
missing.
Thoughts on what to do please?
Thanks,
Raylen

Hi Raylen,
Perhaps try ancestry to check the details? (it depends on the source of their records).
cheers,

Hi Raylen,
It is my understanding that Ancestry does not actually have Records of the Vic BDM, but used publicly available sources when they prepared their own database "About Australia, Birth Index, 1788-1922"
"Ancestry.com. Australia, Birth Index, 1788-1922 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2010.
Original data: Compiled from publicly available sources."
and
"These records are indexes; they do not include images of actual birth records. They can be searched by: name, birth year, birthplace, father’s name, mother’s name."
I do know that when NSW BDM's online index was recently upgraded that some of the then existing flaws were overcome, and like many indexes, other flaws developed. Perhaps similar happened to Vic BDM when their most recent upgrade occurred.
Have you considered contacting Vic BDM direct and asking for their comment?

I had the same problem with Queensland BMD online yesterday. I found 2 entries on Find My Past Transcriptions for Queensland Deaths 1829-1964, which didn't come up on the Queensland BMD site.
I emailed Queensland BMD to query & provided details of the missing entries. Waiting for response.

Thanks for your replies.
majm, I have sent an email today to BDM.
Will see what they say.
Thanks again.

Raylen this is probably an unnecessary question to someone with your knowledge but.....was that birth post 1915? Births available on disc to 1920. Now I'll duck for cover ::) :P
If you would like I can check my resources for you as I'm still using Windows 7.
PM if you wish :)

Oh Cando, I'M the one who should be ducking for cover.
I feel really stupid!
The birth I was checking is 1916 and I didn't look to see what date
the cut off was online.
No wonder I couldn't find it ::)
Thanks for setting me straight ( as you usually do)
