Title: Hudson & Prebble Families
Post by: Archivist_47 on Monday 17 October 16 22:25 BST (UK)
A Lizzie Prebble married a Mr Hudson in the British Consulate in Cadiz  (Spain) on 24.12.1884 and a Charles Prebble married there as well but I don't know when but I think they are related. Does anyone have any idea how I might research these events and these families?

What were their dates of birth, please?

Presuming they were both born in England - where?  Freebmd has quite a lot of Charles Prebble births but only one for a Lizzie Prebble b 1859 Blean

Is any fathers name shown for Lizzie on the 1884 marriage cert?

Did she and Mr Hudson return to England

Did they have any children

Have you looked for Lizzie on the 1861 census to she if she had a brother Charles?

There is a familytree for Lizzie ...Lizzie Anne Hudson nee Prebble

Charles Trew Prebble Esq b 1827 - 1917 married Lucy Elizabeth Wing 1831 - 1883
children
Edwin Trew Prebble 1855 - 1906
Lizzie Anne Prebble 1861 -1945 died age 84 yrs old
Henry Walter Prebble 1865 - 1930

Charles Prebble Esq 1797 - 1840 and Anne Trew 1798 - 1869
......................................................................

Carole W has found Lizzie b 1859 so the tree owner has that wrong - but to check the rest out you need to go on www.familysearch.org   I will see if I can find Charles Prebble marriage to Anne pre 1828 .
both Charles Prebble and his son Charles Trew Prebble are Esquire - so I presume Landowners of considerable wealth .
anyway - that was an interesting search  :)

Charles Trew Prebble did marry again to an Elizabeth Clara
1891 census

Charles Trew Prebble  Head M 63 Berkshire, England
Elizabeth C Prebble   Wife F 43 Lancashire, England
Ernest A Prebble   Son M 20 Russia British Subject
Edith Prebble   Daughter F 20 British Subject
Eliza Hannis   Servant F 45 Gloucestershire, England
Emma Yates   Servant F 24 Gloucestershire, England
 Annie L H Bland   Servant F 14 England
Harry Billingham   Servant M 12 Gloucestershire,

Elizabeth is 20 years younger than Charles and I can't find a marriage for Charles Prebble to an Elizabeth pre 1891 on freebmd - so maybe he married Elizabeth in Spain ??

I can only find one Elizabeth Clara baptised in Lancashire for that period 1846-1848 on Lan-opc

Baptism: 18 Jan 1846 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Elizabeth Clara Kelshaw - [Child] of John Kelshaw & Elizabeth
     Abode: Roscoe St
     Occupation: Gun Smith
I wonder if this could be Charles Trew Prebble second wife ??

supposition of course

This is amazing - you've opened up areas of the family I didn't know existed. It's very exciting to see what you're pulling out of the family woodwork!

Hi everyone,

I'm quite late to the party, as I just stumbled upon this thread looking for more info on my family tree.

Charles Trew Prebble is my Great, Great, Great Grandfather (if I am working it out correctly). My Great Grandmother Ellen Adele Prebble was born in Monte Video, Uruguay of Charles' son and his French wife, and subsequently was sent to live with Charles and his wife Elizabeth who I think would have been Ellen's step-grandmother. She attended Cheltenham Ladies College (as it is now known).

For interest, my Great Grandmother ultimately eloped to Montreal, Canada and never saw her family again!

I found a 1901 census where Ellen is living with them, and they have just the one servant - they had clearly downsized by that time. Charles was 73 and listed as a retired civil engineer.
