I am tracing my Henton family and have come across a stumbling block. A John Henton b1795 in Llandissilio in Pembrokeshire/carmarthenshire and i'm trying to find his parents. I think i have found his father - a George Henton and I have found a marriage record for a George Henton and a Sibles Thomas in 1781 in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. If these are the correct parents, I can't find a lady called Sibles anywhere. Can anyone help??

Have you tried wildcard searching the name? Could be Sybil, Sibyl, Sibbil etc. I'd try try S*b*l*
-
sure have - tried searching death records with just henton or hinton as surname - but shows no first names that resemble sibles.
-
Is this his burial [familysearch]?
Name John Henton
Event Type Burial
Event Date 12 May 1878
Event Place Llandissilio, Carmarthenshire, Wales
Age 79
Birth Year (Estimated) 1799
If so have you tried the burials/MIs for his parents @ this parish church?
I know you said you can't find her anywhere but would probably be useful to say where you have looked to avoid duplication; then new ideas may spring up....

Hi Josey,
Thankyou for your help - This John isn't the John i'm researching. I don't have him listed on my family tree, but it must be Johns son or very close relative. The John in my tree was born in 1759.
I have looked for death records for surname henton and hinton on bmd, ancestry & find my past within the date range of 1759 - 1840. I feel it may be easier to find her death record as there aren't as many hentons rather than searching for birth records for surname Thomas.

I have just realised I listed Johns birth date - It should be 1759. Sorry his son, Thomas was born 1795.

This is the record I found too. I am sorry that in my original post, I was confused. Correct, John married Sibles. I believe his father to be George Henton, with Mother unknown.

Llandissilio was full of Hentons at the time, and there were many Johns, Thomas's etc
I have a Thomas Henton b.1794-1796 d.1863 who married Ann Hugh and had at least 6 children.
His father was John Henton who married Hester. Not much on him but have his will 1812.
John had at least 4 siblings - George, Mary, Martha, Jane.
His father was George Henton who married Ann Evan. I also have his will of 1794. He's my 5th Great Grandfather.
Prior to that its hazy!

A Sybil I knew was actually Isobel so it might be worth searching Isabel, Isobel etc

Hi again Gemma, Following a couple of busy years on research, and bearing in mind your correction of birthdate to 1759.
John Henton b.1759 d.1812. He had a wife called Hester/Esther but I only know this from his will. His will reads:
"WILL of John Henton of Castelgwynn in the Parish of Llandissilio, made 3 August 1812.
In the usual preliminary information it was noted he was afflicted in body but of sound mind and memory.
To his son Thomas: the sum of £40 together with a horse, saddle and bridle to be paid on reaching the age of 21.
To daughter Anne: the sum of £40, and suitable furniture on reaching age of 21.
Residue, after payment of debts etc. by the Trustees: Paul Edwards of Llandissilio, and John Griffiths of the Parish of Lampeter Velfrey, in Trust for: beloved wife Hester, and sons John and George. The executors were to act during the minority of John and George, after which the remainder of his effects were to be equally shared between wife and sons John and George by the executors.
There was an additional bequest, added beneath the main body of the Will, almost as an afterthought, leaving three pounds to his nephew Daniel Wheeler, (possibly the son of John's sister), to be paid within 12 months of testator John's death. The will was proved at Carmarthen on 21st. November 1812, with value less than £200."
His father was George Henton (1724 - 1794), my 5 x Great Grandfather, his mother Bridget d.1774. They had 8 known children. George re-married Anne Evan (1738-1885) in 1777 , but they were presumably too old to have further children.
George's will:
A precis of the will of George Henton, signed 2 September 1794:-
Weak in body but of sound and disposing mind;
To wife Anne all he had before their marriage, and, as in the marriage
settlement of 6.x.1777, two cows, one bushel of Barley and two bushells of oats, and "all classes of Land therein prescribed";
To son George Henton £20;
To daughter Mary, wife of John David of Lampeter Velfrey, £2-2s;
To daughter Martha £2-2s
To daughter Jane £2-2s (he seems almost to have forgotten her as it's inserted beween the lines)
To Niece Anne Parkin one yearling heifer (sic);
All else to son John Henton with the lease of Castle Gwyn;
Son John Henton appointed sole executor.
Will signed 2.ix.1794; witnessed by Philip ?Lorris? (he could only just write his name) & Asa Eynon.
Will signed with very shaky crucifix type of mark (*) by George*Henton
Proved at Carmarthen October 25 1794 by oath of Executor "before me W (?)H Barker Surrogate".
