Found my GG Grandfather on the 1851 Census. He was born in 1800 and in 1826 he married a Jane??? in Carncastle Church of Ireland. Would like to know where John was born and also Jane's surname to further my research.
Anyone else researching my John Maxwell? or point me in the right direction to further my research.
Many thanks for reading my post.

Have you checked local church records? Sometimes baptisms do list mother's maiden name but not always.
Sometimes mother's maiden name is found on later records for children such as their marriage or death certificates depending on the location.

Hi, Jenny57
Not straightforward with bad news as I explore what you know you may know it all
Carncastle { Cairncastle 1901} parish is bounded by Ihave added in Tithe applotment entries if found etc
Tickmacrevan civil parish to the north. no Maxwell found in 1834
Kilwaughter civil parish to the east, see Maxwell, Samuel Townland: Ballykeel Year: 1834
Grange of Killyglen civil parish to the south, see Maxwell, Robt. Townland: Killyglinn Year: 1834 the east is the Irish Sea. larne is only 3 or 4 miles south.
Ballytober name see http://www.placenamesni.org/resultdetails.php?entry=16687
Ballytober townland map https://www.townlands.ie/antrim/glenarm-upper/carncastle/ballytober/ see also ask about Ireland –grifffiths maps ie 6 inch to the mile is first ed,first revision about 1860.
(1851) census fragment
you found one of two versions of this family
1851 see http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie

the above is duplicated with exception of eldest son William being Army Dublin rather than Army Antrim I tried checking army records at Kew but perhaps didn’t try hard enough and I didn’t check

You know the family was church of Ireland
PRONI guide to churches has
CARNCASTLE [or CAIRNCASTLE], CO. ANTRIM
C.I. Carncastle (Connor diocese)[Linked to Kilwaughter – see under KILWAUGHTER]
looking up Kilwaughter
KILWAUGHTER, CO. ANTRIM
C.I. Kilwaughter and Carncastle (Connor diocese) [Earliest registers destroyed in Dublin]
Baptisms, 1883-; marriages, 1845-; burials, 1883-.
Summary that is bad luck, you should still ask the church body Dublin for anything relevant

seems to be a shared {long?}house with Robert Richie, note no mention of son william in the army Robert Ritchie ‘s tenancy is listed as occupier of number 12in the continuation of [Griffiths ]valuation books eg see PRONI then Current PRONI Reference: VAL/12/B/7/4A (1863 - 1866) its page 23, on the line above is No 11 and John Maxwell is crossed out and a john Crawford talks over a pencil note says 11b ..... illegible to me.
8 Droagh Townland , Carncastle County Antrim (1851)
Maxwell working for the Lorimer,
1834 tithe applotment books no Maxwell found in Carncastle {possibly because the C of I rector lived there}
Carncastle parish is bounded by Tickmacrevan to the north. Kilwaughter to the east, Grange of Killyglen to the south, the east is the Irish Sea. Larne is only 3 or 4 miles south
The townland is along horizontal strip with a big mouthful taken out of the middle of the northern area. the nearest school killyglen national school to be found where the Ballytober road starts on the east side of runs eastwards to Brustin Bay Road and crosses over on the way to Drains Bay with road name now Tobergel Lane. Ballumullock road on the southern boundary of the townland
you can travel around ballytober road as ‘street scene’ on Modern google. the old map 1860ish is findable at http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/single_layer/i8.php?lat=&longt=&dum=0&sheet=34,35&mysession=2513325547722&info=&place=&county=ANTRIM&placename=BALLYTOBER&parish=CARNCASTLE&country=Ireland&union=&barony=GLENARM,%20UPPER if you use the 200ft scale bottom rh corner you can see that map is not divided up into tenants but you can see the farm buildings they are few in the townland which also has names like Gallan,Brae Nook, Cammercam, ballytober [house]and mcKeestown to the eastern border Another copy of the Griffiths map might be marked up and stored elsewhere eg Ballymena Library Hqs , the valuation office Belfast, the OS office but under some government office
Good luck onwards
