I'm not sure if you do this on here, I have 4 Certificates of my family, but don't know French. Bonny x
-
Hello Bonny.
I should be able to translate the French ok from what I can see, but I could really do with a higher resolution scan! Is that possible or are those images all that you have?
Angela

4 certificates is a big ask but I am sure you will find willing volunteers, Bonny jean, as rootschat is full of helpful and knowledgeable people; you'll find it is always well received if the original post says 'please'.

I was interested in the second document because it seemed to be a birth registration but had the stamp "decedee. " On side which means deceased .
So wonder if Jules Marie Leroy didn't survive infancy
b.10 am 1864 Nov 20th
Father Joseph Leroy aged 37 carpenter mother his wife Mrs Marie rose massee
But for some reason the house owner is listed first. some kind of civil servant??
Sorry I didn't attempt a full translation.b it can pick out the details if you want
*Just read the last one which is this child's death
The first is the death of father Joseph in 1868 only a few years after birth of the other son eugene louis

Thank you very much. Bonny ;)

St Malo is given as place of his registration as sailor next to his number
His wife.s maiden name is consistently spelt Masse on these documents .
I wonder why there is no cause of death on the certificate s

Hi,
Saint-Pierre and Miquelon-Langlade are islands off the coast of Newfoundland (Terre Neuve), Canada. It is a territorial collective whereby inhabitants possess French citizenship.

Hi, what's the number for ??
As for my great grand mother "Marie Rose MACÉ" I'm told there are also 4 different spellings of MACE - MACES - MASSELET - MOSLEY (IN CANADA)

The number seems to be his sailors registration code maybe his unit .
Did you already have the names of Joseph's parents ...?
They are beautiful certificates you are lucky to have them .

MOULIT ON IT!

I can only make a guess 3,4 is pretty clear I think the next are letters pp like the p in St Pierre then it's No. 8?6
Could be 34PP No816.
Or 896 or 8/6
You.d have to find out how other sailors are listed ...can you clip the number and post it on the handwriting forum ..the people on there are really good at that sort of thing ...tho having the whole document is useful to compare letters .all the other. Numbers for dates and ages are written in full
