Jeremiah McGrath is my Great Grandfather, very little is known of his background in Ireland befor emigrating to Australia around 1860. He was the only child (born 1840) and his father's Christian name was possibly Lawrence, his mother's name before her marriage had been Margaret Lamb (Jeremiah's parents). They lived in Waterford and were farmers. Jeremiah was very young, probably about three years old when his parents died. An aunt and uncle, who like his parents were farming people, brought him up. As a young man he came to Australia (about 1860) and earned a living working for a farmer in Victoria for a short time.
Any information anyone can provide would be much appreciated.

Parish Registers if they were RC
http://registers.nli.ie/
Have you any idea of the Aunt and Uncle's names?
These are possible locations
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01imq/
The parish on the Valuation records are Civil parishes.
It's possible to work out which RC parish they are in by finding them on the map on this site
https://www.johngrenham.com/browse/county_civil.php?county=Waterford
Best approach would be to search the transcripts of the parish registers on FindMyPast.

But that of course isn't free.

Hi,
The Tithe records show Michael shown as Michl. This is the only LAMB in Waterford, maybe a clue to the Mothers family.
Surname Forename Townland/Street Parish County Year
Lamb Michl Ballycormick Aglish Waterford 1830
Lamb Michl Kylepark Aglish Waterford 1830
this is the link

I saw one Laurence.........
Mcgrath Laurence Kilenasarna Whitechurch Waterford 1831
Whitechurch and Aglish are near to each other.
Google Whitechurch map and you will see Aglish.
