Title: Henry & Elizabeth Hughes
Post by: Satchwell on Wednesday 05 October 16 04:55 BST (UK)
I am looking for deaths of Henry Hughes born Scotland 1883 & believed to have died 1969 Petone, NZ: also his wife Elizabeth Nairn Hughes (nee Chalmers) born 1887 Scotland.  I believe they came to NZ via Liverpool   arriving Peone/Wellington 1925 along with their three children: Henry b 1919; William 1920 & Jean b 1923.  Their son William is buried in Levin cemetery.  The family lived firstly at 97 Jackson Street, Petone & then 40 Beach Street, Petone.

Thank you so much for such prompt replies Janette & Beg Clonrode.
I'd been looking at deaths in Hutt area, not Wellington city - silly me.
The passenger list gives me much food for thought & more reseach to be done.
Much appreciated.

Superb searching John :)

Probates less than fifty years old (i.e later than 1965) aren't supposed to be viewable online. Both Archives NZ and FamilySearch state this explicitly. Certainly admire what you've managed to do.

Is your search method anything like the following which will get you to the same end result but will only work if there is an associated camera icon.

---

The following link will take you to "New Zealand, Archives New Zealand, probate records, 1848-1991"

https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/1865481 (https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/1865481)

Scroll down to, then click on, the relevant district.

Scroll down to the corresponding year/record range.

If there is a camera icon, click on it. This will take you to the associated images.

Double-click any image.

Click forward/backwards arrow to find relevant image.

That's how I do it - except I estimate what page the probate is likely to be on, allowing 10 pages per file, and enter that number in the page navigator. It's usually pretty close.
