Title: Find My Past offers
Post by: Maureen Bell on Sunday 02 October 16 16:44 BST (UK)
Are there any £1 offers for Find My Past? My monthly offer finished the other day and was hoping to get another month for £1,I have tried all the codes we have used before but they are all expired.

You can only usually get a £1 offer once, otherwise people could have access to the site for the whole year for £12, which obviously would not be sustainable for FindMyPast.

Thanks

They do have other offers.  I had a year for half price once.

Don't know if its any help but there's an offer on the back of this months WDYTYA magazine  - 50% off a monthly world subscription. Offer ends 31st October. Unfortunately I haven't got the magazine with me but it was on the back cover....

The ANCESTRYHOUR16 code worked for several months - I'm assuming this was an error on their part.  :) It doesn't appear to be working now ....

???  I've made use of £1 offers several times.

Well, I say "made use", but it always turns out that they don't have what I was looking for.  And the latest experience put me off any thoughts of subscribing for longer.  What on earth have they done to it?  I found it incredibly difficult to narrow down searches.

I'm exactly the same. I pay my £1 and don't bother looking anything up - or - the odd thing I do look up gets no results.  :-\

I too have had £1 offers more than once.

I don't know what's going on with all the "New look" sites but they need to employ people who do research of family history/genealogy who are employed in IT as they are all so complex now, I now need help to navigate the sites  ???  ::)  ;D

Does the one month subscription give you access to the 1939 register ? I really don't want to take a full years subs.
Many thanks

I doubt it as FindMyPast says " it will be included as part of our 12 month World and Britain subscriptions."

I think that you should be able to access the 1939 on FindMyPast at your local Surrey library  ;)

I have used a few £1 offers but at the moment seem to have exhausted the FindMyPast databases. I do check every Friday for the FindMyPast Friday records but when 95% of them are Irish I skim past them as they are totally irrelevant to my search. A few more trips to RO's I think is in the pipeline then. New leads will make me want to use FindMyPast again. One gripe is when they release some new records for a county of interest, they seem to have every parish except the ones your ancestors lived in. Sorry, I am probably just on my soapbox and having a mini rant.  ;D

Thanks Rosie I will try Kingston or Woking libraries.
Have full Anc subs but think I have exhausted their records :)

Surrey History Centre in Woking also has FindMyPast access.   ;D

I can't see whether Kingston library has FindMyPast access as it comes under the London Borough of Kingston & not Surrey libraries  :-\

I find the same coombs. I think it's a bit deceptive sometimes when they make a song and dance about records they have, but when you look further into it, they only have a fraction of them. My ancestors are always missing too.

And they never seem to say which parishes are covered and sometimes users comment through FB asking "What are the 20 parishes"? Oh well, more doing it the old fashioned way than putting them on backburners and waiting for them to come online. Dusty record offices, being told to put all coats in a locker and being told off for yelping out "hurrah" when finding an elusive rellie.

I think exactly what js available in each record set is there on the site, but last time I looked, I had to hunt it down. To someone like myself who rarely uses FindMyPast, it's not in an obvious or easily accessible place.
(some time ago I asked the question of FindMyPast and a nice customer care chap told me where to find the information)

Seems I am not the only one who is not happy about the lack of UK records on FindMyPast Fridays recently as some others are also having a rant on FindMyPast via Facebook. The new FindMyPast Friday records now all seem to be from the USA, Down Under or Ireland.

Why not try to cancel your account and then when they want to know why, explain your concerns. They may offer a month or two for free. They did for me.

Admittedly I didn't offer a reason when I didn't renew last month, but I wasn't offered anything extra for free even though there had been an exchange of emails between myself and FindMyPast because they didn't include the renewal price when I was sent the email about the discount on automatic renewal.  In fact they've even stopped sending me emails about new record releases, something that isn't dependent on you having a subscription as I get them to another email address, after my subscription lapsed. ::)
