Can anyone please tell me if there was an obituary for this man . Irfon Rees was a Welshman who was teaching in the area and lodging in The White Hart Pub. If you were in school in the area at the time do you recall him ? This kindly man was 53 years of age when he died. I understand that he was cremated in Derbyshire and his ashes brought to Wales by the landlord of the pub ( but that might be a family myth ). He was my great uncle and I was just a toddler when he died. If anyone recall being taught by him I would be grateful if they would let me know.
Many thanks in advance

Maybe the local free newspaper would put in an appeal for you (it wouldn't have an obituary as it was set up c1975) http://www.britishpapers.co.uk/england-emids/eckington-leader/
The Eckington Leader
Spire Walk
off Derby Road
Chesterfield
S40 2WG
tel 01246 504500
fax 01246 504590
Otherwise, the Derbyshire Times might have a searchable archive.
Hope this helps.

I should have also asked what local school would he have been likely to have worked at if he was living at the White Hart Pub

There is also a Facebook page called "Eckington Old and New"

In 1939, born 31 Aug 1905, he was a schoolmaster at a private school, living at 158 Kingston Road, Staines, Middlesex.
There are records of a similar person in the school registers at Maesteg but the birth given as 5th August.

Thank you. You are correct he lodged at a number of addresses in Staines during the 1930's.
I believe the 5th of August to be correct . I hope someone who was taught by him remembers this gentle man.
Thanks for your kind efforts.
