Title: Gunner John for restoration
Post by: pjs12 on Sunday 25 September 16 05:21 BST (UK)

Gunner John of the 4th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery died June 1942 in Libya during WW2.

Could I please have his photo restored in sepia/black & white and also a colour version if possible.

Thanks,

Ian

Thank you,

You always supply such great scans, Ian.     :)
Is this of one of yours, or of someone in a cleaned up grave?

You don't need this, but it was fun to work on!  ;)

Don't know why but it kept telling me my repair was too big - it does that - for no known reason.  Very annoying but never mind.

Thanks for the colour one Tommy.

Thanks for yours also Wiggy. John is on our War Memorial and one of his relatives gave me this battered photo so we could add to our War Memorial records. We are compiling a Book of Remembrance to the people on the War Memorial, over 700 from our local community fallen in conflicts from WW1 onwards. The latest being a local lad killed in 2011 in Afghanistan.

The book will be placed in the local Library for all to see. To put a face to a name always helps.

All the best for your efforts then, Ian.    ;)

(Don't know how their 'hats' ever stayed on at that angle - I wonder if they used hairpins to keep them in place     :))

Thank you for your contribution Yvonne which I will add to the others. I have already downloaded the previous restorations and given them to the Secretary of the War Memorial committee who is thrilled with them. When I meet up with the family member who loaned me the original I'm certain he will be well pleased with the results.

Thanks again everyone,

Ian
