Title: Should Anne and Alice just stay in the box?
Post by: Gembar on Sunday 18 September 16 10:10 BST (UK)
I have come to the conclusion that maybe, just maybe I should just stop this family history lark as I just keep getting more unanswered questions.
This week I have looked through a box saved from my in-laws before the house clearance men went in. In the box were a bible and two prayer books. The prayer books given to my Father in law from Cousin Anne, one dated 1954 and the other one had belonged to Anne's mother Aunt Rose and the bible, given to an Alice Cox from a Miss Writer dated 1877. Alice had then written her name and address, 21 Asenby Square, Lindhurst Road, Peckham in the back. The name Cox was my father in laws mother's maiden name but I have no sign of an Alice in the tree, and as for Anne and Aunt Rose, I just know know where they fit in.

Well, don't give up now!  :P  :P  :P
Just keep talking to people, looking at records, thinking laterally, and one of these days you'll find out the significance of your Pandora's box.
Sometimes it takes years, but don't let that deter you  ::)  ::)  ::)

Looks like you should see who was living at that address in 1881, which by good fortune should cost nothing ....

If you'd like some help, you'll need to post some details of the Cox family.

Have you got them in any censuses? Which ones, and where?

Have you tried searching the Peckham address in any censuses? The usual spelling is Azenby Square, Lyndhurst Road, by the way.

It's the unanswered questions that keep me going!

I'm confused (not difficult I know)  Are there two instances of Azenby Square in 1881?

RG11/675 folio 83 page 3
21 Azenby Square, St Giles, Camberwell
Charles and Mary Lucas and Henry and Elizabeth Phillips.

District coverage stated to be:

Apologies - the names I gave were from the 1901.  :-[  :-[

Mind you, it still doesn't look as if she was there in 1881.  ;)

Thank you all for your comments and replies.
I always thought you had to enter a name on the census, how do you search for just an address?

Find My Past offers the option to search by street.
