Title: John O'Connell & Ellen Cronin Bootle cum Linacre
Post by: GAJM1 on Thursday 15 September 16 22:02 BST (UK)
Hi I am trying to find more information on the family of John O'Connell (from Newmarket, Cork, Ireland) & Ellen Cronin married 1902.
They were in 1911 Census at 13 Emily St. at Bootle cum Linacre, Lancashire I am not certain but believe John might be my great grand uncle. Any information that can be found on the family would be appreciated.

Is that your tree on Ancestry that has him born in Tipperary but acknowledging that his records say Cork?

Do you have the 1902 marriage record yet to prove that you have the right father? Birth register for Tipperary John O'Connell says born 30 Aug 1879 in Glenbane, Emly, County Tipperary son of David O'Connell (farmer) and Mary Gueran.

Tree has John buried on 15 July 1953 at Ford Cemetery in AH 695 aged 76 address was 53 St John's Road Bootle. Ellen was buried in AH 695 on 26 July 1950 address was 78 Forth Street L20 aged 78.

Using trial and error I've found that John gave his date of birth as 10 April 1877 in 1939. There is a matching birth date for this and it is different to the Tipperary birth. The birth on 10 April 1877 was at Blueford, Newmarket, County Cork. John Connell son of Timothy Connell (labourer) and Ellen Clifford. Margaret Clifford present and registered the birth on 1 May 1877. Blueford is a townland to the west of Newmarket:-

To save a PDF of the birth register entry for John Connell born in Blueford, Newmarket, County Cork go to the Link below and search for:-

John
Connell
Kanturk
1877-1877
(Click) Birth

You will then have to do a security exercise such as click on the square to the left of "I'm not a robot" and do what they ask you to do and then click Submit. Then when they ask you enter your name and click on the little box.

There should be two results for Kanturk the one you want is ID number 10528504

Hi Blue70,

Many thanks for your help Timothy O'Connell & Ellen Clifford are my great great grand parents.

What record in 1939 gives his date of birth?

This very much looks like he is my great grand uncle now.

Thanks a million

Hi

I'm wondering if the tree on Ancestry belongs to a distant relation who has got his roots wrong and following the wrong line. Do you have access to Ancestry? I could send them a link to this discussion.

The 1939 record refers to the 1939 Register we can't do look-ups on here but I don't have a subscription anyway and just used the free search facility to establish the date of birth:-

I'll message you about the other Liverpool and Irish records.

You could ask Ozranga (Marienne) to tell you the names and addresses etc of family buried in the same grave as John and Ellen. Ask for a look-up of the O'Connell family grave at AH 695 at Ford Cemetery on this thread:-

Hi Blue thanks was looking at the family tree and even the owner admits in notes on the tree that records suggested he was from Newmarket, Cork but he(John) claimed to be from Tipperary

Looking at where they lived they might have married at St Alexander's RC church. This church was bombed in WW2 and the records destroyed. This would explain why the RC marriage record is not online. There should still be other copies though but they would have to be obtained from the GRO or Liverpool Register Office if you wanted the marriage record:-

This map shows where they lived. The area is Bootle/Kirkdale. Bootle comes under a separate council (these days Sefton) while Kirkdale comes under Liverpool City Council. The RC church on St John's Road is St Alexander's the one that got bombed in WW2. Emily Street is off Derby Road. Forth Street and St John's Road are easier to find:-
