Title: king cross graveyard in halifax
Post by: lynda rowell on Sunday 11 September 16 13:44 BST (UK)
There are five DUNNs in grave number 1169
As a child I visited this grave with my grandmother.

During the last five years my visits to find the grave has been unsuccessful. Like looking for a needle in a jungle. If I knew the location I would again take cutting gear to locate it.

Can anyone guide me please?

Lynda

Hi Lynda - welcome to Rootschat from me also.  :)

I've sent a message to a guy who knows the King Cross jungle very well, and I know that he has a map.  He's still active on RC, so I hope that he will respond to me.

Hello Lynda,
Yes the grave is fairly easy to access, down and one over  the steep steps, in the Jungle part of the graveyard.
I presume you have searched for the grave yourself, not an easy task is it? :)  :)
Luckily I have a finding aid very close to your grave.
If you PM me I will contact you by Email.
You need to post 2 more reply's to be able to PM someone, so just post here with something twice more.

Greetings

We have been to the jungle a few times. Frustrating to say the least.

We have found some good stuff in the open section, but now thinking of hiring a JCB!
However encouraged as the owner is starting to clear the site.

Regards, Lynda

A success in our search of the jungle (slowly being cleared) in King Cross.
Thanks to all people who helped.

Well done, and all power to drewhowson, who is the "fount of knowledge" related to King Cross - he's helped me on more than one occasion.  :D

Just an update:
The local history society has now produced an index of Memorial inscriptions to the entire graveyard. (Some 14,000 entries)

Indexes at Cfhsweb, and findmypast.
Burials are also on Ancestry, under reference CR33.
