Title: inverclyde intimations
Post by: elaine447 on Thursday 08 September 16 18:47 BST (UK)
Why cant they just leave things alone when they work,
instead of searching names AB to AY
they have changed it to search by year 1800- 1825
really ??? a lot of people dont know what year they are looking for,
whereas  they at least knew a name, now you have to look through all names for
those years to see if yours is on it,
I lasted all of two minutes before I got fed up

Hi Elaine,

I suspect it is because Betty has retired and the new broom has swept up!!  The best we can do is to ring up the Watt Library and complain, this site was THE best website around by a mile.

Your right Kathy it was a great source for this area, I just feel no-one will bother with the site anymore as it takes to long to go through all that info,, will get my complaint in asap,,

That is such a pity (and a pain for all). It worked so well as pdf/alpha searches. Easy to download and view all the BMDs by surname across all the time period they hold on record.

What also helped is that searching by surname often brought up a whole set of events for an individual family.

Hi Elaine. I have these as Adobe docs, covering  A  to  McE,  L'A  to  Ly  and  PA  to  PU.
Should your interest lie in one of these groups, please PM me and I will try to assist. This new broom not only swept it clean, she hid it all under the carpet of the unknown. Imagine searching SP with only a date!

As of 2022 [?] the Intimations were removed from online. The reason? I was told "a lot of the information we had available online was in a PDF format that no longer meets the criteria around accessibility detailed in current legislation for the public sector so they have had to be taken down."

However, I downloaded several files many years ago for my personal use. I've now uploaded them to https://mega.nz/folder/ML90AZiA#YjiIf2hzH35TizQ4vSINBQ

Enjoy.

That's a real shame, was a great resource. I have downloaded quite a lot of these previously.

I can still get them online but not as easily as it used to be.

That's a load of cobblers.

It's a bit like saying that because a blind person can't enjoy a silent film, all silent films should be withdrawn.

They should be making plans to improve the accessibility for the minority who require such improvements, not depriving the majority of a useful resource.

Thank you

and in addition to that:

Following Elaine's advice I did a series of searches using
inverclyde intimations surnames
then added in turn (using a space between surnames and the letter)
A
B
C
D
E-F
G
H-K
L
M-1
M-2
N-R
S-T
U-Z

which each brought up a link for the relevant file, clicked the link and the file downloaded to my computer

I now have 13  .pdf files, which total 121.4 Mb saved on my computer.
So although the main site no longer gives access, the files are still currently downloadable.
How long they will remain on the server is anyones guess, but whenever I come across anything like this which is freely downloadable I do so and save it if I can, as so many specialist projects like this do disappear in time.

There is a 14th file Soldiers of Inverclyde – Military Entries 1914-1918. It is in exactly the same format indicating it is part of the series but it is not on the Watt site it is at
