Title: Wyken Hostel
Post by: june.greenough on Wednesday 07 September 16 13:15 BST (UK)
Hi, would anyone know what year the Wyken Hostel in Coventry was opened I know it was up and running in 1945 as my parents are on the census for that year there,  but I think the hostel was opened between 1941/3. I am trying to establish what year they arrived in Coventry. my father came from Staffordshire and worked as a scaffolder.(Builders) my mother came from London and worked in the canteen of the Amunition Factory there  I think the place was Wyken.
Thank you for any info you can give on this, would be much appreciated.
June.

Wyken Hostel Belgrave Road is mentioned in the Coventry Evening Telegraph - Monday 14 December 1942 in relation to a road accident. It was probably opened 1939/40

You can seee the Hostel on the 1948 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/437685/279870/13/101329 it is not on the 1938 map.

Sorry, I don't know where you would find any employee records. Just to say it was the 1945 Electoral Roll, not a census.
