Title: All said and Dunne
Post by: Robin G on Tuesday 06 September 16 10:52 BST (UK)
Hi
I'm trying to find family of Kathleen DUNNE born during the third quarter of 1894.  She is listed in the 1901 Census as living in London with her mother Emily DUNNE, a cook, who is aged 50.  A Kathleen DUNNE aged 17 is in the 1911 Census as a niece and I'm hoping that the family she is living with might reveal Emily's maiden name (if she was indeed married).
Regards
Robin

Ok confused here

I cant find a Kathleen Dunne born London on the 1901 census with a mother called Emily there is one who is a scholar in Surrey and one on the 1911 census with mother Alice who is a cook

As you haven't been very specific I am guessing Kathleen  was born London

There is a baptism which would tie in with the 1894 St George Hanover sq birth registration
with parents Michael James Dunne & Jennie ?  Dunne  :-\

Birth certificate for Kathleen would reveal her mothers maiden name - if she was married.

On the 1901 you have does it say married for Emily?  If she was 50 then Kathleen was a late baby.

1901 census ref for Emily & Kathleen, I had trouble finding it too  :)
RG13/147 f174 p51

Corner of page torn off   -   Emilys pob is (County) Lo...   Kathleens is (County) Ca...

1901 does state Emily is 50 and married and gives Kathleen as her daughter. They are in St Pancras

Hi Willow

Thanks for trying to assist me.  The above link is to the item that I found on Kathleen DUNNE. I'm not familiar with how to make it into a hyperlink.

The next census confirms she is not born in London.  The 1901 incomplete county is probably Cambridgeshire

Sorry but we are not allowed to give details from the 1911

Hi All

Thank you very much for helping me.  Kathleen ended up in South Africa where she died in 1927.  Trying to piece together her history from South Africa is not quite as straightforward as it would be in more sophisticated countries.

Thanks again, I will have to try another tack on this problem.

Regards

Robin

Hi All

Kathleen DUNNE first married George Ronald RICHTER.  I cannot find a record of this but that is not surprising.  He was a South African police officer.  They had two sons born in 1918 and 1920 in South Africa.
They were divorced on 13 Oct 1924.
Kathleen then married Francois Pieter MASSYN on 5 Jan 1925 at age 30.  The certificate states that she was born in England.
Kathleen died in 1927 in South Africa.

Robin

How about this as a possible for the 1891 census

28 Clarendon Street, St Pancreas, London

Henry Dunn 40 b Stratford, Essex boot tree maker
Emily Dunn 40 b Bushey Heath, Herfordshire
Laura Dunn dau 13 b Stratford, Essex
Edgar Dunn son 12 b Stratford, Essex
Lillie Dunn dau 10 b St Pancreas
Jonnie Dunn son 7 b St Pancreas
Berty Dunn son 3 b St Pancreas

RG12/128/187/15

Laura and Edgar are both married by 1901 and Lillie and Berty are with Laura and her family

Hi roasie99

Yes, both certificates are for the Kathleen that I am researching.  The death details are very disturbing but thank you so much for finding the certificate.

The death details were very sad.  Shame that the SA marriage certificates don't give fathers details.

There is no reason I suppose why Kathleen should appear on the UK census. There are a couple of K Dunns appearing on passenger lists

1900 TANTALLON CASTLE from Southampton
Mrs Dunn, Miss D (over 12), Miss E (over 12), Miss K (under 12) and Master - (under 12)

1908 Dover Castle from Southampton
Mr M Dunn occ Dealer
Mrs E
Miss M (between 1 & 12)
Miss K (between 1 & 12)
Master N? (infant)
