I am trying to find the cemetery where Henry BOLTON is buried in Garston. Find My Past records show him buried Garston Lancashire 22 Jun 1891 but does not show which cemetery. The death certificate shows Henry BOLTON died at 9 Russell Rd Garston 19 Jun 1891 aged 85 years. Henry was born in Co. Clare Ireland and I believe he moved to Garston Liverpool in the 1880's with his wife Ann. Ann and their son Frederick William BOLTON are buried Toxteth Park Cemetery. I suspect Henry BOLTON may possibly be buried in St Michael's cemetery but I am unable to confirm this. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Hi jh44
Welcome to Rootschat ;D
If you look at the entry on FindMyPast, you will note that the source of the information is Family Search intl, known as the Church of Latter Day Saints and their genealogical database is here www.familysearch.org
if you then look at the corresponding record on family search the batch number is given as I02487-5 and a film number of 396371
if you click on either of these numbers you will see more records from St Michaels church at Garston which is confirmed by this catalogue entry
http://londonfamilyhistory.org/catalogue/#film_number=396371
so he is in the churchyard not a municpal cemetery.
hope this helps.

The entry for Henry Bolton is in the burial register for St Michael's Garston and is available to view on Ancestry. Ancestry has transcribed the surname as Botton. I have submitted alternate info to correct this mistake.

I went to school with Bolton family in the 1950's and 1960's. I live in Garston and my family have been here for 150 years
I will walk down to St Michaels church later and have a look for Henry Bolton amongst the headstones - any other family members you want me to look for ??
:)

George 1900 and Jane 1924 - another 2 Bolton family members buried in St Michaels - are they related in any way ?.....the reason I ask is that I will be looking for HENRY BOLTON - if he is with family his name may not be at the top of the headstone - I will check anyway ..
Robert Bolton buried 1821 aged 11 is the earliest Bolton buried in Garston that I can find
James Bolton born 1757 - buried Garston 2nd jan 1831 - don't know where he was born though
I have found 12 Bolton burials in Garston from 1821 to 1924 ...so over a 100 year period
I could be goggled eyed later ....lol
I will enjoy looking - it's a challenge :)

Hi Garstonite
I do not know of that George or Jane BOLTON at this stage. Henry BOLTON was born in County Clare circa 1806 and he married Ann BOLTON (daughter of Alexander BOLTON of Sligo Journal) in Sligo 1834. I'm told they had a very large family (19 children) some of whom emigrated to Australia. Henry was in Ennis and Spanish Point Co Clare in the 1850's and 1860's. In 1876 Henry was at Clareview Salt Hill Galway when his brother Charles Paulet BOLTON died. I lost track of him until he turned up in an 1891 Census at Garston when he was living with his wife Ann, daughter Mary (caring for her parents) and grandson Henry BOLTON. I believe Henry and Ann BOLTON moved to Garston in the 1880's. Their daughter Mary was in Liverpool from about 1871 and their son Frederick William BOLTON (retired Army Officer and Customs Watcher) born Spanish Point Co Clare 1850 was probably in Liverpool from the 1880's.
I have been able to trace Ann, Frederick and other family members having been buried Toxteth Park Cemetery Liverpool. I do not know of any other BOLTON family, other than Henry BOLTON, who may be buried in St Michael's Churchyard Garston. There would be other BOLTON descendants in the Liverpool area.

Hiya - just got back from the church - but sadly I couldn't find a headstone for Henry Bolton ...I found a very large (high) Bolton family headstone which dated back to
Mary Bolton who was buried 1865
also her husband Robert Bolton who was buried Oct 1866 - then there were about 14 lines of writing which was unreadable - the sandstone writing having washed away the actual letters ... so it is possible that Henry may be in that grave - but no visible proof .
my friend is F**** S Bolton b 1951 in Garston ( we sat next to each other in Junior school ) - his father was Frederick W Bolton b 1925 Liverpool ...so I wonder if Frederick W Bolton was related to your Frederick W Bolton born 1850 - did he work at the Liverpool custom house at any time ??
I am going on freebmd to see the 1925 birth and try and find out Frederick W Boltons parents and try and work back with them .
added
Frederick W Bolton b 1925 mmn LORD
Arthur V Bolton to Alice Lord 1921 at St Columba , Anfield,Liverpool (presumably Alice was from Anfield )
Arthur V Bolton b 1895 - see if we can find him in 1901 census
-
looks like Arthur Vincent Bolton b 1895 West Derby ,Liverpool
1901 census has Arthur V Bolton b 1896 estimated living in Edgeware Street ,Edge Hill ,Liverpool
family are
Jane Bolton aged 42 born Holyhead , Wales ( customs port ??)
Joseph H Bolton aged 22 b Liverpool
John C E Bolton aged 21 b Liverpool
FREDERICK W Bolton 14 b Liverpool
Maud B Bolton 11 b Liverpool
Franklin V Bolton 9 b Liverpool
Arthur V Bolton 5 b Liverpool
do you know the name of the wife of Frederick William Bolton b 1850 - could it be Jane ?? if so was he alive in 1901 and is he working somewhere as a customs officer ?
trying to connect the Bolton family I know to your Frederick William Bolton - having found my friends father and his grandfathers brother as both Frederick W Bolton it looks like my friends ancestors go back to your Frederick William Bolton ...need your input please

Hi Garstonite.
Thank you for looking for Henry BOLTON's grave.
Frederick William BOLTON b. 1850 Co.Clare enlisted in 1870 for 12 yrs (at Athlone Ire.) into King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry). He married Mary Ann Elizabeth URSELL b. 1862 in Pontefract Yorkshire 1884. She died Pontefract 1889. One son, Henry Francis BOLTON was born circa 1886 Pontefract and he joined the Army 1914 at Truro Wales. I believe they had another son named Henry Francis BOLTON born circa 1888 Pontefract and daughter Margaret, born 1889 Pontefract.
Frederick William BOLTON b. 1850 then married second wife Jane Allan HUGHES nee CALVER at Pembroke Wales in 1892. Jane is recorded born Ireland 1856. They returned to Liverpool where their children Frederick Calver BOLTON (1895) and Thomas BOLTON (1897) were born. In 1901 Frederick William BOLTON is recorded in the Census as living at 51 Teilo St Toxteth Park Liverpool and his occupation is shown as Watcher HM Customs. They were still at Toxteth Park in 1911. He died in 1915 and is buried in Toxteth Park cemetery.

Hi Garstonite.
On again checking my notes I need to correct an entry in my last post. There was only the one son named Henry Francis BOLTON born Pontefract circa 1886 (parents Frederick William & Mary Ann Elizabeth BOLTON) and who enlisted in the Army in 1914 in Truro Wales.

OK ....no connection to the Bolton family I know - worth a shot though ....anyway - I will see the caretaker of St Michaels ( he locks up and opens the 2 sets of gates and keeps the gardens trimmed ) and I will ask him if he can look up the plot of Henry Bolton buried 22nd June 1891 ...hopefully I can find the plot .....by the way - 9 Russell Road is still standing - it is next door but 2 to The Derby pub which is 1 - 3 Russell Road
here is a photo of a house in Russell Road
