I am needing some help please to find information for Richard Henton b 1897 in Pembrokeshire Wales, moved to New York in 1922, seemingly a married man to a lady called Assanette b 1907 Egypt with her parents being from Armenia. I can't source a marriage license for these two (I have a feeling they married in Egypt) also would like to find the maiden name for Assanette. It may be Piren as the us census shows they lived in a property with outer Piren family.
There are a number of passenger lists for Richard mostly in 1922 which is also hard t work out.

There is a record on FindMyPast of a marriage for Richard H Henton between 1916 and 1920 in Alexandria, Egypt.
The surname of the spouse appears to be PASHAIAN, first name Assanette
This is the GRO Consular Marriages record 1849 to 1965. You can order certificates from the GRO. The page number is 746 and the year range is 1916 to 1920.

One record of Richard leaving the UK is dated 24th October 1922 and he was living at Rose Cottage, Rose Bush, Maenclochog. He is on his own.
There is an earlier record for 23rd September 1922 where Richard is listed with his wife. However there is a line through both names and NOB written which I suspect means not on board.

The Hentons are on board the Orduna that arrived in New York 7th Aug 1922
They were listed as deported. Above them and admitted were Oghaper Pachayan a 50yr old widow and her son Ohannes a 16 yr old student who were admitted.
All 4 listed the same person in Alexandria where they had all travelled from as my friend Wgonis G Joanes 644 COY. R.A.S.C

On Army documents in US for John Pashain as Assanettes brother now gives his name state he was born in Mouche Armenia and details all tie in with the 1922 arrival above.
Not entirely sure Mouche is correct for spelling as cannot find listing.

There is a family tree that says Assanette's father was Mardiros Pashaian, her mother was Youghaper, and her sister was Iskouhie Pashaian born 1905 in Armenia. Iskouhie's husband was listed as Leon Peren, born 1890 in Armenia.

Make sure you check the 2nd pages of the passenger lists, as they provide information including who they were going to join.
It looks like Assanette was detained, but finally admitted after this 1923 arrival - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JNGY-G6L The manifest markings indicate that she sought naturalization circa 1942. http://www.jewishgen.org/InfoFiles/Manifests/occ/
Richard filed a petition for naturalization in 1929. It says that Assanette was born 31 Jan. 1901 in Alexandria, Egypt.
They are in Brooklyn in the 1925 New York state census - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K9BQ-4KV

On www.fultonhistory.com, try searching for the exact phrase "Richard Henton" and a number of articles come up from 1923 about the issue of Assanette not being let into the US because the quota of immigrants from Africa had already been reached. One of the articles has a picture of her.
Their story also seems to be mentioned here - https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/87625589/ You can sort of see the text of the mention if you scroll to the bottom, and I think there is a picture in the actual image.

Thankyou all for your help. I have delved into things and it seems that richard henton was in the army which took him to egypt where he fell ill, where he must have met & married Assanette, where they travelled to New York to try to live. Richard was allowed in as he was an "Englishman", but unfortunately Assanette, being born in Egypt, was barred as the African quota had been met, they both then travelled to England and tried to travel to New York Again unfortunately for Assanette to be barred again duo to the quota being filled and she was sent to Ellis Island. Richard fought hard for Assanette and I'm assuming he was successful as she was listed in the 1930 census with Richard in Brooklyn. I found a number of newspaper articles on the situation, one of which I have attached. Thankyou again for all your help. I have solved a family mystery xx

I don’t know if this will be seen as I can’t tell how long ago this was posted.
I am the grand daughter of the man, John Pashain that you are all talking about on this thread.
He was known as Channes Pachayan over in Egypt and is the man that came over on the boat with a few members of his family.
I just started searching and am having a very difficult finding info as stories that were told before they all passed is nothing what I’m finding.

I do have Richard Henton b. 1897 Wiston, Pembs on my tree but nothing subsequent as to what he did, where he went, it was getting a bit far from my main line. If it is the same Richard, he had parents John Henton 1869-1927 and Ann b.1866...
John was the son of Richard Morgan Henton 1845 - 1901 and Phoebe Lewis 1847-1914.

This appears to be Richard's gravestone - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/114717647/richard_h_henton His wife seemed to be using the name Gladys on later census records.

I have found further information on Assanette Pashaian (married Henton).
She filed a petition for naturalization in 1942 (while her husband, Richard, was working for the military) and lists that she has changed her name to Gladys Henton. She was then granted Jan 1944.
