Title: soward family tredegar
Post by: ivorglyn on Monday 22 August 16 21:57 BST (UK)
Dear all,I am researching the 'Soward' family in Tredegar. On the 1841W census they lived at Colliers Row in Tredegar,Bedwellty. The family is(all Soward):Ann 55,Edward 15,Thomas 15,Margaret 20.In 1851(still at colliers Row) are:Ann Soward 67 b.Carmarthenshire Llanelli,Margaret 31,and Thomas 25(both born Tredegar).Edward Soward married Jane Williams in Abergavenny reg in 1846(quarter 2).In 1861 living at Bridge Street Tredegar are Edward Sowards 39,Jane 35,William 14,Ann 12,Jemima 3,Edward 6,and Thos John 4.Ann Soward b.~1850 married Thomas Thomas on 21/feb/1871 in Bedwellty
I am trying to find out who the parents of Edward,Thomas, and Margaret are.I assume that Ann b.~1784 Llanelli was their mother.I am looking for any marriage between an 'Ann' and a Soward. One marriage I found was in 1821 in Bedwellty between Thomas Seaward and Ann Jewell.
I believe Thomas Soward(b.~1826) married Sarah Kinsey on 4/sept/1854 in Aberystruth.I also found a death record for Ann Soward in 1860 Abergavenny. If anyone recognises this family I would be most grateful for any extra info.Unfortunately there are no parish records available on line before 1800 in Llanelli,Carmarthenshire..kind regards..ivorglyn

A marriage certificate for any of the children should tell you who the father was  :)

Dear all,The marriage between Ann Jewell and Thomas Seaward was in 1921 not 1821 so is irrelevant.I apologise for this..ivorglyn

Your suspicion about Thomas marrying sarah Kinsey may be right. This link

http://newspapers.library.wales/view/3396938/3396943/40/soward%20AND%20tredegar

is to the report of the prosecution of a man who stabbed Thomas in the hand - Thomas having been caled by his wife to assist a Solomon Kinsey in a dispute with the defendant (who was acquitted)

Yes, I thought that Marriage was possible too.  FreeREG has him as Edward SEWARD

Also lots of other Sowards on Census are born Glamorganshire

I had also check F/S for a Ann Mathews  c 1784 Carmarthenshire, with no luck.

I did notice this Family in Llangafelach, Glamorganshire

Thos Soward, 50
Ceclia Soward, 50
Margaret Soward   , 0
David Soward, 15
Edward Soward, 14
Sarah Soward, 12
Ann Soward, 6

Just thought worth noting as he may be a Sibling of Edward.
Names of Children are similar.

Trish :)
