Have you found him on censuses - with or without wife?
Have you got his death cert - who registered his death?
Have you looked to see if he left a Will?
Tell us what steps you have already taken to find out about his wif(v)e(s)

Hi again I would suggest that the last "wife" was possibly a Georgina, have you therefore checked the 1939?
A Georgina Beaney died December qtr 1944 Mansfield 7b 86 aged 90
EDIT When/where did the first "Wife" die?
-
Hmm - I'm not sure that James was the "marrying kind"!!
He's not easy to track down on the censuses etc, is he? I've found him advertising his wares as a music seller in Hastings in 1875. He was probably in Hastings in 1880 (James Beaney referenced as directing a programme of entertainment), and again in Hastings in Spt 1881 playing the organ at a harvest festival. Can't (yet) find him in the 1881 census though.
1884 papers have ads for a musical tour which includes one James Beaney, playing in Exeter, Bristol, Plymouth, Portsmouth, and Brighton.
1899 - he gave a concert in Bottesford - "a professional musician of much experience".
I can't see anything else.
I know this doesn't provide you with the names of any wife but at least we know he was in the country and therefore should be in the censuses!
-
Ok, I've found him now in 1881; he was 23, a professor of music, living in Hastings with his widowed mother and still single.
-
Thanks yes I have this info but not who his wife was when he died(1932)

How do you know that he was married when he died?
-
Hi again, I would suggest looking up the 1911 for a Georgina Beaney b Hastings living in Mansfield?
She looks to be the widowed Georgina Avery 46 with son Bernard 18 in 1901?
Census ref RG13/864/75/7
Keyboard86
EDIT I also think that Georgina was not "Widowed" in 1901, and the son was possibly a James Bernard T Avery December qtr 1882 Hastings 2b 34
-
As I said before - who registered his death? If he had a "wife" at the time then could well be her.
-
I have sent for the death cert for James 1932!!! Wait will let you know result,

I can't even see a Georgina Beaney, of any marital description, in 1881 so I'm not sure why you're so certain that this is not the one to which Keyboard is pointing you.

1911 Census, Living @Gilcroft Cottage Mansfield as Lodger married but wife not with him
1911 Census
Now look up the Georgina Beaney 56 b Hastings as Lodger married but husband not with her, has a son Bernard Beaney 28 b Hastings, who if you look back to my posts, was surname Avery 1891/1901 Census?
As a matter of interest James Beaney 23 with his widowed mother in 1881 Census ref RG11/1027/74/2 is from Google Maps about an 11 minute walk from a Georgina Avery 26 b Hastings?

So you haven't actually found any wedding details for James and Ann, just s comment on the census that they were married- which I'm afraid doesn't prove anything.
Please can I also ask that if you want more help that you try to help us by answering our queries rather than ignoring them?

I believe Georgina was his mother or sister, and went to live with him in Mansfield about 1911? died 1944 90 years of age. Could this be right as it is about the time Amy left and came to live in Doncaster under the name of Wilson along with Amy H (my mother). I remember my Grandmother, we went to live with her for a short while when my Father died in 1932.
-
There are no births registered for a Georgina Beaney in Hastings in the relevant time frame.

I have received James death cert
Died 8 July 1932 75 yrs
@105 Stockwell Gate Mansfield " Thrombosis".wife in attendance G Beaney 152 Victoria St Mansfield born 1854 Mansfield died 1944 90 yrs Still cannot find a marriage? and obvious not living together all help would be appreciated ;
thanks
KenM

105 Stockwell Gate was the address of what had been the old workhouse; the workhouse hospital eventually became part of Mansfield Community Hospital.

So James didn't die at home; which means you can't rule out the idea that his home address was the same as Georgina's.
Maybe someone would be able to look at electoral registers from the 1920s-30s to see where he was living?
-
Thanks I have found Gorgina on the 1930 Register living at the same address Widowed 87 yrs of age.
but still no marriage!! She died in 1944. Looks like he died in hospital.
KenM
I have given up hope of finding a marriage for James,I believe he was a bit of a fly-by -night
-
Dear Ken,
I also think there isn't a marriage to be found for James Matha Beaney; either, to your grandmother Amy or to Georgina.
The online electoral registers do not cover the years 1911 to 1920 to see where James and Georgina might have been living, however they were both living at 152, Victoria Street, Mansfield in 1921 up to 1932.
I see from a newspaper report that Georgina's son (sometimes known as James or Bernard) was in Mansfield by at least 1913.
Nottingham Evening Post 18 August 1913
Mansfield Woodhouse Motor Fatality - Bernard Beaney , 139, Victoria Street, Mansfield, who was driving the float, described what occurred.........
I have also sent a pm.
Kind Regards
Sheila.
