Can any one please tell me if they see anything other than what I see for my ancestor's written signature on signing off on her marriage record? She was born in Germany, married in Montreal and, her Anglican name is BEACH on the marriage record. Her german spelling, or so I am told is BIETSCH. Her signature looks to be spelled: B-E-I-T-Z-C-H or even B-U-T-Z-C-H. Thanks in advance for your help. Attached is the signature. :)

Agree Beitzch
From Hans Bahlow's 'German Names' ...
Beitz : probably from the E German place name Baitz, Beitzsch, etc

Do you have a physical copy of the book? I would appreciate a lookup if you do.
I checked on my Uni website and they don't have it. :'(

How exciting and thank you. ;D
The name is Lawardorn, which in Australia was spelt more ways than I can count on the children's birth registrations.
I'm hoping that there is something akin to it at least. My ancestor's naturalisation document has him born in Hanover.

Sorry, Jamjar, nothing comes even close.
Checking your previous post re the name, and Googling it, it would appear to be totally Australian, which points to some mis-spelling or even Anglicising on its way there.
It doesn't really look German, does it? So maybe it once began Laue~, Lauer~, Lohe~, Loher~, Lowe~ ?
There seems to be little traffic on the Niedersachsen Mailing List these days, but it may be worth asking there.

Thank you for looking. I guess it will remain a mystery for the remainder of my lifetime. :'(
