Title: Which picture is older?
Post by: DS12345 on Tuesday 16 August 16 22:11 BST (UK)
I have received photos(not originals) of 2 family members. I believe the names given are mixed up. I was told the man in the photo standing is a great uncle, and the one sitting is my grandfather. The picture of the man standing looks exactly like my father, so I need to date the photos. Any help appreciated.

The similarity of the men's clothing and the cane furniture suggests the photos were taken around the same time, neither is distinctly older

Welcome to rootschat DS.

 Lovely photos - it's a shame you don't have the originals.  :)

I'm sure someone will be alsong soon to help you with some dates. Sometimes it is useful to see the back of the photos to help with dating - are you ale to ask the owner of the photos if they can send you a scan of the backs if required?

Not ideal for dating as they're blurred, however I think post WW1 & into the 1920's for both.

I would agree, theres very little difference between the photographs.  There is not even any clue to be gained from the quality of the image i.e. any possible speed difference,  yes C1920's for both.
